I did a UCA and shocks yesterday on my truck, connected everything back up, ECU, battery, no check engine lights or any other fault lights. Took the little insert piece out by the shifter and got it to move that way. Any Idears what it could be?

    Thanks

Did you blow the fuse to the tail lights? I've done that on my second gen.

Fuse to brake lights on my '93 Civic causes the lockout in park condition.

Well it’s a short in a wiring harness, part is a month out, so I will take it back and push the magic button to get out of park

Well still not fixed, Toyota is now helping them troubleshoot it, they are now checking another wiring harness. Any ideas, the first harness did have a short, but that wasn’t the fix.

On your original post you mentioned reconnecting the ECU, any chance of bent or pushed pins?

I don’t think so, cause everything worked as advertised when I took it off jacks, when I drove it to let everything settle down, did that 3 times that night, parked it next morning went out and it wouldn’t come out of Park. I would think a warning light or something would have came on, but will ask the tech to check that. I know I checked all the connectors making sure all the pins were straight before connecting it back up. Very careful with that, as that would be one of the first things asked when we would have a electrical problem on F-16. But will ask the tech to check. Thanks for the info.

Bummer. Such an odd problem. I don’t recall if the 3rd gens do this, but if you listen closely as you press the brake pedal, you can hear the gear shift interlock click open (off?) before moving the gear shift. Do you hear a click when pushing on the brake? I’m guessing not because that’s what keeps the gear select from coming out of park.

I’d ask double check fuses again as has been mentioned since work has been performed on the wiring harness.

. Will do thanks for the info, I never really paid attention for hearing a click, but don’t remember hearing any click, will ask about fuses. But what gets me is the short in the wiring harness that they found, glad they found it.

Ya, odd for sure. May have been pinched or linked at assembly and worked just long enough to get out the door before vibration from driving it finally did it in.

Any evidence of critters in the vehicle? Mouse turds or tiny bits of shredded paper?

Nope no evidence of critters, garage kept, but seen no signs of them.
My thinking it is either the wiring from the actual transmission to the TCM or something with shift cable, dealership just says they are troubleshooting a 2nd harness, waited on Toyota to get back with them for about 5 hrs yesterday, so I called the 1800 number for Toyota, since dealership had been waiting on response from them, but no one from mechanic or service rep up channeled that info to the Service or General Manager, its unbelievable to me, I had to upchannel it to the General Manager, then emailed the Service Manager (since he was at lunch), see what happens. Give them until next week, then take it back and give it to another dealer to work. They have had it since the Tues, changed 1 harness behind the dash with actual short in the wire, but it wasnt the fix. But glad they found that before it caused problems else where. 1098 miles on Truck

Guess it's fixed, waiting to get it, will see what they say was the problem. Funny it wasn't fixed at 5:30pm Friday, didn't work on it Sat, but by 8:30 this morning it was fixed.

Happened on my 2018 Tacoma. It was a blown rear taillight fuse.

Update, it’s fixed, they didn’t completely push in to connectors, don’t know how you wouldn’t check all the connections while connecting or after you have connected it, but hey it’s done, works as advertised, so it was the harness behind the dash that was bad.
