I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I have an 08 Tundra. My headlights are horribly hated. I'd like to replace them, but I know just enough to be dangerous. I know I want HID's not LED. I know it should be a projector style lense. I don't have a button in the cab that auto adjusts the angle of the headlights. I dont want to break the bank. Thats about it. What I don't know is what to get. Do I need some sort of "harness"? Any help would be appreciated.

HIDs in a reflector housing will cause alot of glare to other drivers, especially if you don't have the manual dial in the cab to aim them down. Many of the cheaper aftermarket replacements are just as bad because they are junk and not aimed correctly. The ballast and bulbs don't last long either. Many of us here have either gone to a retrofit or Morimoto XB led headlight assemblies.

I thought the projectors had a shutter to block upward light and blinding other drivers? I also heard the LED's don't project as far as HID's?

Projectors do have a cutoff line if they are quality projectors, which are not cheap. A retrofit to put projectors in an oem housing runs an average of $700 for a basic retro up to a $1000 depending on how you want it done....led accents, type of shroud, etc. Leds can project very far. There are quite a few of us that are using Morimoto Xb's with no complaints. They work very well. I actually have mine for sale because I bought a 2020. I just got mine in yesterday that I bought for it.

I went with Anzo retros (projector low, LED highs) and did a full set of GTR HIDs. I did the 55w ballasts and once properly aimed, they blow away LED. I had my truck side by side with an OEM LED truck and everyone in the shop agreed which was better. With the a set of GTR fog lights (LED) I never use my high beams.

I did retros before there were good LED replacements. Retros aren't cheap and take time to do. You will have to get a second set of housing or go without headlights while working on it. Not sure about gen 2 lights, but gen 3 are tricky as the HID has to be tilted and supported from underneath or it will point at the ground.

Morimoto's look good, but I'm not looking to spend a Grand on headlights.

Current lights are trash. Way to have and yellowed. Was looking for a reasonably easy replacement thats an improvement on stsndard lights without breaking the bank as eventually ill be trading it in for a newer model.
