I’m sure 100 people have considered this, and it’s been asked before but I haven’t found an answer. I recently bought a pair of 2016 platinum headlights with the single led strip with full intentions to do a morimoto hid retrofit, but I just read the threads by iHacker and Roman regarding the plug and play harness for the oem lights, and the great price on the oem black 2019 lights. The price of my 2016 lights plus the hid kits isn’t much below the price of 2 brand new oem lights...and it requires a lot more work to put the projectors in! I realize that the hid lights are better than the led oem ones...but if it’s close I think I’d rather just get the oem ones and save the hassle! On a scale of 1-10 how would you guys who’ve seen both hid and oem led compare the two in brightness?

I had the retrofits with HID and they were bright, but not aimed well and had intermittent issues. I switched to oem LED lights. LED is not as bright as HID, but better in every other way.

So if you were in my shoes you’d go oem again?

if the hid are 9/10 in brightness when correctly aligned, hoe bright would the oem leds be? 7/10? I’d say the halogens are a 5/10

I would still go with OEM LED.

Yeah I’m just getting some clarification, but I think I’m gonna do it if Roman ships to Canada.

Even if he can't ship them up to you, he can give you the part numbers that you could take to a local dealer.

Same, the ease of install on OEM LED makes retrofitting a tough call. I'd only retrofit on a super budget build or super high end like LS430, Q45, etc. projectors

The price wouldn’t be much more for the new oems...and they look sharp! And hopefully would last forever without a bulb burning out

Where in Canada are you located? It’s worth crossing the border for the kind of savings between Roman’s prices.

I’m close to the border and I have an American friend about 2 hours away, but shipping to me would be easiest. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks

Just installed the 2019 OEM TRD headlights to change out my Halogen Headlights, could not be happier. I ordered my stuff on blackfriday weekend and Roman & Ihacker and TRS source were having sales. I choose to go the OEM route simply because I liked the headlights more. I did the retrofit thing on Tacoma, it was cool but can be a PITA for getting your cutoff line correct and install. Just my $0.02.

That’s like the same price as the ones from Roman...I wonder why they quoted me 950 when I called a couple of weeks ago.

    thanks!

Maybe they were dumb and thought you wanted two sets. Hate to be a dick, but parts guys can be idiots or geniuses. All luck of the draw.

    I’ll give them a call. If they’re 400 I’ll be selling a pair of 2016 platinums lol

Yes might be same price as Roman but than comes shipping and of course Canadian customs will have to get their piece of the pie.

I'm glad I went with an RX350 retrofit but if I had to do it again if go with OEM just because I have too many other projects and not enough spare time.

Morimotos are quicker and easier but if youre going through the trouble of cracking open the housing might as well go with a better projector

yeah I've basically decided against the hid retrofit now. I am currently deciding between throwing some GTR Ultra 2 LED bulbs into my 2016 platinum headlights along with a harness for the led dlr, or going 2019 oem (black housing) OEM will cost more and from what I gather be similar in output, however will look better and have dual led strip rather than one, and be oem quality...cry once as they say.

    A bunch
I just went with @Headlight Revolution when I got my OEM's. It was a little more expensive but then I didn't have to deal with a dealership and I got all the extra LED bulbs included in the package. Did LED fogs at the same time and it was a shade under $2k CAD for everything including shipping, customs, and taxes. It's a pain being in Canada, if you want it easy like I did you have to pay for it.

    Is that $412 installed?

For that price, under $1000 installed and taxes in, for us Canadians, I may look into that in the new year too. I know install isn't difficult, but if they install them, they would cover some warranty.

Either way, that seems like a pretty good price
