I hit a deer last night in my 2006 DC Limited with 80k miles. (the deer hit me in reality) Deer hit where the bed starts behind the drivers side rear passenger door. Dents and scratched down the drivers side bed and rear bumper bent. Going to have it fixed using my insurance. My tailgate was in need of painting prior to this incident. I'm thinking of telling my body guy to paint the tailgate while doing the other body work in exchange for me replacing the rear bumper.

The current bumper is a painted bumper. I looking at bumpers on ebay and I am not opposed to installing a chrome bumper and I have also come across a grey powder coated bumper. Any body purchased ebay bumpers? Decent quality or pass? Is it more difficult to install a chrome bumper if it came from the factory with a painted bumper? I do have the factory installed tow package.

I've used new one off ebay, everything lined up - arrived in decent package - sent straight to repair shop. Might check Amazon, sometimes they beat ebay prices and if you have prime then free delivery And free Returns (if needed -ebay returns are rarely Free).

    Luck and enjoy your Toyotas.

Bumper doesn’t look too bad. I’d keep it as they (IMO) seem like a lot of work as far as seized nuts, brackets, etc.

Body guy should paint the gate like you said.

Take the bumper money and please buy new tires!

Tires have about 50% tread left. Flash on the camera makes them look bald but i have about 30K miles on a tire with a 65K warranty. The tailgate wasn't damaged by the deer but needs paint due to previous damage. I was thinking use the insurance money for bumper replacement/paint to paint the tailgate and replace the bumper out of pocket. I can turn a wrench but paint not so much.

maybe just have the body/paint guy repair that little area on your bumper and shoot it with fresh paint along with the tail gate. This way everything jives color wise. Unless you want a chrome bumper.?

    Mod it!

Add some backup lights. Scuff the paint/chrome good and hit it with some bedliner spray.

I used an eBay rear bumper on my 06 crew cab without issue

I got the plain black steel one, since I primed it and had it painted to match the truck.
