Hello. I have a 2018 SR5 that came with a basic rear view mirror. I was wondering if all Tundras have the harness for homelink mirrors? I didn’t see it when I looked.

    Thanks!

you dont specifically need the toyota mirror and harness. You can retail purchase the identical Gentex mirror with auto-dimming, and homelink. Then just install it by powering it with correct power source from either overhead or down the A pillar to the fuse panel.

one thing that is really poorly thought out on tundra is the homelink will activate if the truck is unlocked and the keys are out of the ignition. This is a terrible idea. At least if you DIY you can wire the Gentex to only work when the ignition is in run / on.

Thanks for the info. I actually have the OEM mirror that I got recently. Was hoping to be able to find a harness in the top overhead to power it up.

Did you ever sort this out? I'm trying to find the connector pinouts so I can tap into the right pins to power my Escort Dashcam and Radar via a blendmount power cord with needle taps. BlendMount Power Cord, MTX Series, Patented, 15 inches long, RJ-11, 2 Amp Inline Fuse with Military Grade Taps MTX-1015 44.99 New MirrorTap

    Thanks,
    Kirk

Kirk - Hit the wiring diagrams link in my signature. You'll find the EWD manuals for the 2021 Tundra and can find the info on the mirror pin-outs.

Thanks a lot Casey, I just downloaded them and did some searching through them. Awesome work BTW! I am not strong at reading EWD's but it looks like I need Pin 10 for +batt (white wire) and pin 3 for ground (white with black stripe) in connector W8. (RVM connector) I will test them both with a meter prior to sliding the taps into the back of the connector. (No cutting, vampire taps or splicing here.) Since you clearly have more experience reading them, am I reading that right?

    Thanks,
    Kirk

I got impatient and metered those connections out. They are what I thought I read, but it is a constant hot connection so I will have to unplug the radar and dash cam from the dash cam every time I stop for more than a few minutes. This will do for now, but I will need to run a wire to a switched + batt source at some time in the future. Likely when I swap the A pillar cover with the one that has a handle and do the Oem Audio Plus audio upgrade install.

Thanks again for the work on the EWDs!!!

Yes, the Homelink mirror is on all the time. Not the most secure setup if you park outside like I do - I’ve thought about changing the power source on it to be switched like all of our Subarus are.

If you end up doing it, please keep my in the loop of exactly how and where you do so. If I get to it before you, I will do the same.

    Thanks,

I did this a few months ago on my 2014..

Homelink Mirror Power Only With Ignition On | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com)

My 2014 is 14 pin, the wiring diagram I used is 2015.
Someone in that thread says his plug was a 12 pin.

Sky blue wire is ACC powered.
White wire is to the battery.
Of course white w/ black stripe is ground.
W1 is the black connector to the wiring that goes into the mirror.

Both the bat (pin 8) and ign (pin 1) leads are on the left end of the plug when it is plugged in, the right side when looking into it.
Also my plug doesn't plug into the mirror like in the mentioned 12 pin plaug.
It plugs into a connector with wire leads into the mirror with a cover that conceals the wires.

I don't usually use connectors like this, but I was too lazy to strip and solder.
I also wanted it to be easily reversible..
Being that I park in the driveway I felt this was a necessity.
It was a window smash of being able to open the garage door.

Thanks for the info. My setup is different with the W8 12 wire connector, but I wonder what else I can use up there.

On the 2018 and newer, W8 is the connector to the mirror, and it is a 12-pin. Further, the mirror and garage door openers are both powered only off the battery (no other power going to that connector). So changing the power source going to the mirror would need to be done by hijacking that power wire and tapping it into an ignition- or accessory-sourced wire instead. It looks like there might be an ignition power source running up the A-pillar in either the JW1 or JW2 junction connectors, but I would need to do more digging.

I would expect that the TSS camera has switched power up there somewhere. I have not had a chance to dig either.

Yes. Connector W9 (grey 12-pin), pin 7 feeds power to the camera from the ECU-IG1 No. 4 fuse, which comes from pin 19 in the JW2 junction connector in the A-pillar. If I guy cut the wire at pin 3 in JW1 and spliced it to pin 19 in JW2 you'd have switched power to the mirror. Not sure yet if anything else is pulling power from that same wire yet though...the EWD's don't give you direct pin-outs on each connector so you sort of have to build those by searching the connector through the entire document.

I wonder if you could just tap the White wire in position 10 of the W8 connector into pin 7 of the W9 connector and skip the A pillar part (JW1, JW2) all together?

Probably, but I don't know where exactly the W9 connector is compared to the W8 one, and how much room you have to work with up there. I know that the A-pillar trim is pretty easy to pull, and that there is a bit of room to work there. In my old 2008, that was I did the wiring modifications for the anytime camera switch (the 2008 camera screen was a small drop-down screen in the overhead console).
