Just reading Honda will stop production of lawnmowers effective within the next year.

Mower production here in NC will cease by Sep 2023 - with production of 4 wheelers to move to the production lines previously dedicated to producing mowers - and the SC production lines currently dedicated to ATVs now going exclusively to the more popular SxS.

A real shame - as they made some of the best mowers out there. Kinda glad now I bought a 2nd a month ago at auction for $50. Didn’t need it - and didn’t start but a replaced carb fixed that and self propelled is nice. Better yet the composite decks will never rot and the engine will last forever as long as you maintain it just a little.

Not sure what this says about other Honda small engine production - but it can’t be good for generators and the like. Cant see them outsourcing and allowing the name to be slapped on some junk. Guess MTD will be the last standing producer - and it’s a shame. Grew up seeing how they took some trusted brand names and gutted them for a profit. Deere does it similarly too on riders in my opinion. Until recently you could get a decent x3— series rider for 3k - no more. Cheaper build, lesser quality and higher prices. Last I looked some were pushing near 5k.

Well sh*t! IMHO Honda made some of the best - if not the best - mower motors out there. :(

I'm a big Honda fan currently using an old H1011 Harmony rider. The one that looks like a bug. Bought it will used in 2007 and that single 30" blade still does a beautiful job on the lawn.

Whatever this forum told me to do
kinda feels like we are being forced to not use gas engines....

Mine still starts on the first pull...I got it in 1998.

I was sad when I read this story.

Honda is the best mower. by far. & not the cheapest.

I have yet to meet a person, in south Houston, who likes battery mowers. they cannot cut large St. Augustine lawns.

Our old home had about 1/4 acre of grass to cut. I bought the top of the line self propelled walk behind. Two years out of warranty my wife finally cracked the deck by repeatedly going to the sidewalk and banging the front wheels down on the concrete. I went to buy a new deck and a Honda service rep was there listening in on the conversation how she broke it. He agreed to replace the deck for free if I returned the broken one so they could return it to R&D.

I wonder if now would be the time to replace the old Yardworks I got for free from a friend. It still seems to run well, though and has a Briggs and Stratton engine.

Damn shame, I have gas everything. Did just buy a brand new Honda mower last season so good there. I'm 32 and not looking forward to when I'm 50+ even more grumpy and stuck in my ways.

Yes - curious to see if they are completely getting out of small engine manufacturing or just mowers with their name.

Pressure washer has a Honda - as does the portable pump. I simply do not buy anything small with anything but a Honda engine when possible. Plentiful parts, easy to repair and long lasting - they are what Briggs & Stratton was up through the late 70s.

Honda ATVs are legendary - how many Big Reds do you still see running today ? Remember when those were THE 3 wheeler to own. Cost a small fortune - but man - they lasted and probably still sell for more in rough shape than they did new in 1985 or so. Kawasaki was always its poor cousin in our area / a little cheaper - almost as reliable. Now a days it’s Polaris that dominates the SxS and ATV market - can’t stand their overpriced junk.

It’s funny how our local ATV mechanic refuses to work on “jap junk” - funny - but I’ve found that “junk” to. E far superior to any “American” brand by far. I’ve got a Polaris 700 my sister behind - I have no interest in trying to fix that thing - gonna cost 3x what it’s worth likely and who knows how long it runs. Got a Artic Cat 500 - bought it for pennies at a salvage sale 5 years ago - had been a repo by a local pawn shop and brought down to the salvage auction to sell as part of repo. Thought - hell $50 and if it doesn’t start - I can probably sell parts for $100 - got it home and starts right up still. Just gets zero use as with a SxS - no one wants to use a 4 wheeler - but I prefer it when going into the woods - maneuverable in tight spots - 4wd and who cares it’s not the most powerful made / not like I’m pulling something or need to go 60. Open field work - I’ll take the SxS - but if I’m going into backwoods / still will pull out that little AC.

Hopefully Honda keeps making the small engines for other mower brands. I've owned a few other brands powered by Honda. The engine always outlasts the chassis, even with only a couple oil changes in 12 years.

I've told myself that when my Honda mower gives out I'll start paying someone to mow the lawn. Going on 20+ years now and I may never get to retire from yard duty.

Oddly enough, I bought a new Honda mower last year and it's never started on the first pull. It has always started though and the quality seems second to none. Sad to hear they will be ending production. I guess I need to make mine last.

My Honda 31cc string trimmer never starts on the first pull. Never. Always starts on the second pull. If not, I turn the switch on:anonymous:

Well I am going to need to go make an unplanned purchase of a new mower then haha. Been eyeing the 21” push mower side discharging version, super simple and should last forever. Been waiting for my current model to die but won’t.

Wheels. It's a small single stage. I kind of wish I had sprung for the big tracked dual stage but having just a regular driveway I couldn't justify it.

Mine is still a "one-pull" start machine (even after sitting 6 months in fall/winter) after 10 years, good stuff.
