Ha yes that is just the mount. The light bar that mount is built for is a 40" Baja Designs S8. I could help you out on picking one up if you decide to go that route, but there are certainly other bars that probably have been install there. Pretty sure NSV was working on something once upon a time, but I don't know if they ever came out with it.

I am also looking for a lightbar for the hood bulge. I was the nsv and the bd s8 but I can't justify spending almost $1k just for one lightbar. Another forum member bought a $100 lightbar from Amazon and was happy with the results.

Mine is a 2016, went with SDHQ mount and Baja Designs S8. Expensive yes but also extremely bright. Stock headlights, S8 and S8 backlight.

When I was looking there were a few that didn't require cutting. The S8 isn't one of them. I didn't really want to cut but I wanted the most light output I could get. I did give her a bath and a wax after if that helps.

Isn't the $100 one from Amazon also a lot less effective?

Yes, you get what you pay for. My 4runner has more lights then any vehicle should ever have. Started with Amazon bars and pods and started getting Baja and rigid. Now the whole truck is Baja and rigid and the quality is obvious. My rigid side shooter pods are brighter then an Amazon 32" led bar.

I think almost all require cutting those bars behind the bulge, you might be able to find a skinny bar on Amazon that would fit in front of it.

Could you post some closeup pictures of the fitment? Also, does the S8 have its own switch? I don't like the NSV because it only works off of the high beams. Thanks.

Hope this helps. The S8 has two switches on the wiring harness. One for the backlight the other for the main light. I ended up getting a Switch Pros controller and switch. On the switch the DLR button is for the backlight and the lightbar switch is for the S8.20210806_140424.jpg 20210806_140419.jpg 20210806_140409.jpg 20210806_140357.jpg 20210313_134820.jpg

Thanks. So it looks like the only gap is at each end of the bar? I don't see any at the top or bottom. I just can't see getting the NSV if I can't even turn it on manually without going to high beams first.

You're welcome Sir. I agree with your comment on the switch. With the Switch Pros controller and switch you can double tap the switch and the lights will strobe. I didn't care about the strobe function at first but got to thinking, if there was a emergency situation help could find you quicker. I put my parka back on and took a couple more photos. The gap on each side is part of the lightbar where it attaches to the mount. I had to use a flashlight inorder to get it to show up in the photo.20210806_155525.jpg 20210806_155556.jpg

Absolutely, and fantastic looking truck. You do have to do some cutting on the hood but you will never notice it once the lightbar and surround is back on. You will also need to drill some access holes on the under side of the hood. After I made the cuts I shot it with primer and then some color match to prevent rust.20210311_224054.jpg

Thanks. I did see a video on the tabs that need to be cut out. It didn't look too bad. The holes are to reach in to grab the wiring?

They say to cut those "so you can get the bolts in from the back side easier". It's because they replace the plastic clips that hold the bulge on with bolts and nut clips.
    upload_2021-8-6_20-8-4.jpg
I left the plastic clips in, and have had no problems in 3+ years. They did come loose once going across south dakota at 80MPH in 50+ MPH winds. Only time I've had a problem... I replaced the stock plastic clips with new ones after that and they've held ever since.

I was referring to the supports on the hood itself but it's all good.

No, they're for reattaching the plastic surround. They include some screws and nut plates. If I had smaller hands it would have been great. But it turned into a pain in the rear. There is a channel between the outer and inner hood panel that I fished the wiring through. It comes out by the drivers side hood hinge for a clean install.

SDHQ brackets look solid, but that is definitely a lot more trimming than I did with my Nilight light bar.

All I did was cut the 3 brackets behind the bulge and drilled 2 holes for the light bar bracket.

I actually had a local customer buy my 40” bar off of me so I had to order another couple. Install is not complete as a result!

Were you able to source a bar yourself?

Yes I did actually. Got the harness today, and ordered the SDHQ brackets. I wouldn't advise someone cutting me off in the dark with one of these lol.
