    Howdy!
I have a 2008 tundra. When the hood latch release is pulled the hood will not pop. I have traced the cable from the handle to the fire wall and all is operating. The issue is under the hood, that will not open. Does anyone have a method to release the latch from outside without damaging the grill?

If the cable is attached to the latch but not opening the hood, the latch may be misaligned with the striker. Try pulling the hood release while driving over a bumpy road at low speed. Often this induces enough flex and vibration to release the latch.

Thank you for the reply, I like this method. But it currently won’t work. I left out the part that this recent cold snap killed my battery (all the way dead). So the truck is not driving at this time.

Get a friend to help then. Pull the hood release while they manipulate the hood.

It might be a longshot, but have you tried pushing down on the hood while someone holds the release out?

this. One pulls the other pushes on hood on center. If it's the latch that's not releasing after you release from the inside, you have to reach all the way up on the inside of the grill to the springed hook and release it manually.

had same issue... turned out that the actual hinge got rusted a bit, spray some PB blaster on it and it'll pop open after few smacks on the hood..

Sometimes it'll release but not actually pop up. Try just lifting up on the hood after pulling the cable. Like cttundra said, the latch could be a bit rusted and need something sprayed on it to loosen it up or possibly be replaced.

    Update:
A liberal dose of PB Blaster to the latch, plus some help so I could pull on the hood while someone held the release got it open. The latch is pretty crusty and will need to be replaced when the weather is a little nicer.

While someone holds the release, pushing down and up on the hood in rapid succession (as if the truck is on rumble strips) will usually do the trick.
