Horn stopped working for several years. I have read that this is more than likely the clock spring. More and more I am hearing a noise when turning the wheel.

I have also read somewhere that it could be a wire harness rubbing in steering column. Before I purchase and replace a 200 part, what are my chances that it could be the wire harness?

    Thanks

The clock spring is a $20 part. If you want OEM then give $200. But I fixed it with the cheapest ebay clock spring. It was <20.

So replace it. In fact use the search and see how many clockspring threads are on here.

BTW my problem was no horn and no curise. Swapping the CS fixed my issue.

Here is the ebay seller's name.

Sounds like your clock spring needs replacement. Get the cheaper one and follow a YouTube video for instructions. It worked for me. Same symptoms.

The clock spring is very easy to access and test if that's the issue too. It's like two screws and the steering wheel nut, then use a puller or yank the wheel or tap the back with a hammer and it'll pop off.

thanks all. When I looked at clock springs on the net, Amazon, Rockauto, Toyota the cheap ones don't appear to support airbag. This why I looked at the 200 dollar one. the difference seemed to be one wire jack verse 2 wire jacks, I will check again.

So @82angelfan Just thinking this out here.. If our clocksprings did not have airbag cable.. then I am sure we would get an airbag light on our car.. I am just speculating. But since airbag is a safety system of the truck I would think there would be airbag system check and anytime the system sees a disconnect in the airbag system it would bring the airbag light on.. so do you research and see what you find out.. I would like to know myself..

I got my clockspring through a link on one of the threads on replacing clockspring. It might have been through a video in the thread. My memory isn’t too great these days.my truck had air bag too. Search for the thread on clockspring replacement. Hope that helps. Good luck.

How is everyone's cheap CS holding up? I got a cheap eBay one and first time I turned on the truck, horn worked again, but I got an airbag light. I put the old one back in and the airbag light cleared. Seems like it was the cheap CS

2 years in with mine, and everything is still working like it should. No warning lights. I didn't get mine off of ebay, I got it off of PartsGeek.

Right at 4 years the eBay one broke and replaced with another eBay unit, never had an issue with it not working out of the box.

Well they refunded mine today after I put my original one back in and it cleared the airbag light. I said I'd be fine to get a replacement, but they just sent me my whopping $14.00 even back.

I'd be fine if it lasted 4 years lol, it wasn't too hard. Just nervous holding the "Front Towards Enemy" side of the airbag while removing and installing it. But right out of the box is kinda annoying. I'll have installed three clocksprings in one month

I can’t remember if it was 3 or 4 years ago I changed my clockspring with eBay model. Still holding up good. I think it’s closer to 4 years now. Hope it keeps going longer.

Ebay clockspring here too. Not nearly as long as others, just over a year, but it fixed my cruise control issue and has been flawless.
