How are you all searching/finding your Tundra?

Hey yall

Been debating on a Tundra for a while now (have an F150 on hold) and I am trying to find the Tundra I am looking for but am struggling with searches.

I am looking for either a fully loaded SR5 in Lunar Rock 5.5 or a Limited with same (TRD, etc)

The Toyota inventory site doesnt appear to show what is actually in stock (unless I am confused)

A lot of these dealer pages don't show color and specs (window sticker, etc) and have very few inventory

How have you guys had luck finding what you are looking for?

 

Found mine on auto trader. Looked through all the dealers posting incoming trucks and found one exactly how I wanted and got it first come first serve.

I just went on the google maps app on my phone and searched Toyota dealers near me then just proceeded to check the inventories of every dealer around me.

Do a search for Toyota Dealers (whatever state) and you'll get a list of cities on the Toyota.com site and start going thru the dealer inventories, one by one. The Toyota inventory search is worthless, because, even if you find a match, it doesn't tell you what dealer has it.

If you're looking in a, say, less populous area -- you can search by city

as for the ads on Autotrader, etc., if they have a VIN (most do) you can search the VIN on the Toyota.com owners resource and get the option and config info there. Problem with this is, BION, not every dealer advertises on AT.

also worth a shot are cargurus.com and carsforsale.com

 

Send a build sheet to my local dealer and told them to call me when they had something close or exact. Didn't take too terribly long.

 

try cargurus.com, you can search used or new, nationwide and use different filters based on what you are looking for.

That's how I found mine back in January. Saw that sweet lunar rock pop up and it was destined for my local dealer that isn't doing markups. I immediately threw down cash. It should be here mid March and I cannot wait.

How I got my 2022 TRD sport premium, I went to local dealers around me and check for "market adjustment". Lucky for me, the dealership my family been dealing with doesn't do market adjustment. I talked to salesman and he said they get a allocation list ever 2 weeks. I put in a $500 refundable deposit and my preference. Picked 3 colors I wanted, must have package options that I required, and options that I wanted but not required. They would contact me every 2 weeks when allocation list comes, and if any of the trucks on allocation matches or not.

I went in Dec 11th. Put in deposit. They had a allocation list the next week on Dec 17th. A truck matched my preference. Got it reserved for me. Got a build date of Jan 4. Truck got built Jan 7. Got an update on Jan 20th that truck was switched to free status and delivery date of Feb 9th-14th. Truck got delivered Feb 3rd. Picked it up Feb 5th.

 

Dealer called about 6 times in 2021 asking to buy back my 2015…1st 5 times I told them no can do cause I didn’t have a replacement plan (and couldn’t afford to go down to 1 car household).

Sixth time (last Oct) they caught me as I went in for an oil change and since I was curious I asked how much they were willing to pay….$6K over what I paid for the truck 5 years prior (and 25K miles later) so I picked out what I wanted from their incoming allocation and got it on January 3rd.

Family owned spot with good people (and no markups) so I’m pleased.

 

I don't know about other states, but the inventories posted at Tn dealerships are not accurate. Most dealers have 10-15 Tundras listed as available but they are all sold, not even on the lot.

 

Autotrader. I had an allocation at a dealership and the production date kept slipping. I was on work travel, sitting in a hotel bored, and said screw it I’m going to find me a truck. Did an autotrader search with any distance from me. I would cross reference what was on autotrader with the dealers website and give them a call. 60+ dealers and 5 states away from me I found my truck on the lot and had it shipped to my front door lol.

 

Went to my local dealership, sat down with my sales guy and used Toyota website to build what I want, left $500 refundable deposit, the dealer told me they'll let me know when something similar to my desired build comes in and that the price will be MSRP. It's been a month and I haven't heard anything back yet, will follow up with them next month to see if there is any info regarding my Tundra.
I am not in a hurry, as long as I get my truck by August, so I can give my 4Runner to my daughter before she goes to school I will be fine.
