How do I play my iPhone music.....

Hi folks, I just discovered this forum-I’m really excited! I have a 2008 Tundra SR5 with JBL music system. I want to play my iPhone music tunes thru this system without having to use a cable. My JBL is Bluetooth, I can play music fine if I use cable plugged into aux jack, however I would much rather NOT have to use the cable. Has anyone got this set-up? Thanks in advance for any help!

 

Hmmn, I wonder if your JBL is different from my non-JBL-? Mine is a 2017 and plays via Bluetooth. Just pair on the iPad/iPhone.

 

I’m fairly certain this era only supports Bluetooth for phone calls and not streaming music. That was the case with my 2008 Lexus GX. I think you’d have to replace your HU to stream music wirelessly.

ETA you could also install a Bluetooth adapter to your Aux port. Welcome to the forum.

 

you are correct sir. i have an 08 owned since new so familiar with early gen2 features. even our 2011 camry that has bluetooth is only for phone calls. to play music in that car from my iphone i need the apple usb cable plugged into the usb port for the audio system.

 

Like others have said, the 2008 model radio only does bluetooth for phone calls, and not audio streaming. I believe in some 2010 Tundra they updated so you can do both.

 

You would need to purchase an aftermarket head unit or new stereo for a few hundred dollars that has apple car play or that allows BT to be used for music and other options like hands free calling, etc.

 

Thanks everyone! Y’all seem to be correct-the ‘08 does not support wireless music devices, just for phone. Maybe that’s why I can’t find it in the manual(tongue in cheek). That’s ok, I can use the cable. I’m not about to change the head unit! Thanks again folks. Love this forum!

 

You could do what he says. This is a mid point between connecting the cable to your phone, and doing it vía bluetooth. Here's one fairly cheap.

I used bluetooth for quite a while with my excellon, but the costco close to me has a pack of 3 usb thumb drives @ 64Gb each for 19.99, and they are the fastest thumb drives I ve ever seen/owned. You can fit a lot of music on a 64Gb drive
