Having finally decided it is time for a new truck I went in to the dealer to get on the list, and they pretty much told me "we'll let you know if something comes in". No money down, no questions about what I want, nothing.

This goes against what I have read here where people put down $500, and check allocations, get some kind of date etc.

The guy I worked with is very new, so I want to make sure I have the process right before I go back over there.

Looking for a white Limited crew cab 6.5 with the Limited PVM package with options, will not pay over MSRP. (just in case anyone knows of one)

I went in and said this was what I was looking for. What color/colors would be for you. Then they just let me know when something came in and I could say yes or no. I turned down 3 vehicles before settling in.

Funnily enough it's the small dealers many of us had more success with. The big city dealers have waiting lists a mile long.

Don't limit yourself to just one, or 5. Call them all

Perhaps I understood this a bit wrong, but doesn't my dealer reserve what I want in dealerdaily, then if that truck is allocated to my region it will get allocated to my dealer first? Wouldn't being on the list at multiple dealers in the same region be superfluous or am I misunderstanding this?

Not the way I understand it. Basically gotta take what comes within what you are looking for.

there are alot of factors that determine who gets what this is just a small list...

    1. how much that dealer sells in a quarter/fiscal year (this is a major factor probaly about 60-80% of a dealer score)
    2. if that dealer meets regional sales quota's either by quarter/fiscal year
    3. if that dealer is an exclusive dealer or 3rd party dealer
    4. consumer ratings of that dealer (those pesky dealer feedbacks that you get mailed to you from corporate/regional office)

and yes you can put in a reserve request in dealerdaily. i've had mine in since beginning of may-2022 and it still hasnt been picked up by the regional port yet.

but my post above will also determine when or how low on the totem pole your dealer is on getting an allocation reserve request filled.

i put in only one request and its very specific.

    platinum 5.5ft crew cab blueprint

NO AQ factory code (this is a unicorn build for a platinum since about 80%+ have that factory package.

on top of that i wanted specific accessories added which makes it harder to fulfill.

but i have time and can wait, just like we waited on our 2018 platinum which took 3 months to fulfill our request and that was way before covid even thought of causing an issue.

I would check the thread on which dealers in your area are selling at MSRP.

Out of the roughly 30 I contacted within 300 miles of me I found two places that would sell at MSRP and had salesmen I was comfortable working with that would try to get me exactly what I wanted each allocation they got.

Third go around with the allocations I finally got a match with one. Still waiting on the truck to come in though.

So far I have sent 12 emails and only had one response that wasn't what I considered being blown off, is this normal? How are people actually getting their hands on these trucks when it feels like the dealers want little to do with me.

    The way I got mine:

I did a build on the Toyota website and sent it to a dealer. Went to chat with the dealer to see what they were about (they sell at MSRP but with a few dealer options that I didn't mind, like a cat shield/window tint). Dealer found the closest vehicle to my build allocated to another dealership within Gulf States Toyota. Called that dealer and did a little wheelin' and dealin' to get the vehicle to their dealership to sell to me. My deposit was $1K.

Yes. A ton are going to do this in my experience. Most will ghost you once you ask if they’re selling at MSRP because most aren’t.

I would call the dealers closest to you and see which if any sell at MSRP. If they do then you can talk to them about what you’re looking for. Then ask them to call you as allocations come out. If they’re selling at MSRP you’re gonna have to be Johnny on the spot when they call and make a decision quickly. Sometimes they won’t even have the sales sheets to you before someone has claimed one.
