I refilled when my tank showed 1/4 left and the miles to empty was 50. I only pumped in 27 gallons, $114 worth of gas and it was all the way full. It doesn't make sense that I had another 11 gallons in the tank left before I refilled. Maybe 6 gallons, 3 in the tank and 3 as reserve sounds right, but not a whole ass 11 gallons.

    I have a 26 gal tank.
The most I ever put in it was 21 gal and the gauge was on the south side of empty..

If you have the “larger” tank option which I had on my 21, it should be officially 38.5 but it will technically hold a little more.

Your comment leads me to believe that I have the 38gal tank.

Sound about right for a 38 gallon tank. from what I have heard that there will be 6 gallons at empty to make sure the fuel pump in the tank stays cool. If mine gets past 1/2 of tank I fill just to keep it under that $100 mark.

You have a 26 or a 38 gallon tank. Those were the only 2 factory options. If you got 27 in it you have the larger tank, but because the fuel tanks are very long (crawl under and look) they have a very conservative DTE. This keeps you from starving the pump on an incline while low on fuel.

If you bought your truck new, look at the monroney (if you still have it) to see what package you got. Maybe run a VIN search??? It sounds like you have a 38gal tank. At zero DTE, you will have used 32gal and have 6 gal remaining.

I have a 38gal tank on my Sport.

I’ve had both 26 and 38 gallon tanks. Most I’ve ever got in the 38 gallon tank was 35 gallons - ran it for a while with the low fuel light.

Simple answer: at current prices it'll hold more than you want to spend to fill it up when DTE = 0.

I mean I do feel jealous because I saw a video of a guy filling up his Tundra with $45 back when gas was under $2

In have an old car that has no gas gauge at all and actually has a “reserve” that requires you to turn a handle to tap the last bit of gas in the tank.

The car chugging to a stop was the warning that you had about 50 miles before you really ran out of gas.

In the Tundra, I know that it hits empty and the gas light comes on with about 6 gallons (80-ish miles) left.

I pushed it once, waiting uncomfortably long to fill up. I squeezed 32 gallons in.

I pushed my 26 to the limit..
Had a full 5-gallon can in the bed.
1/8" past empty when I finally filled it up and got 21 gallons in it..
