For the life of me, I cannot get any dealer in the central Ohio area to find a 4x4 Double cab SR5 with a 6.5' bed in Silver or Lunar rock with the most expensive option package listed on the Toyota website

I haven't purchased a new truck in 10 years. I have all of the payment options open to me (from showing up with cash to financing 100% of the truck)-----How do I get the dealers in the area to work on my behalf?

Or, how do I locate the truck I want anywhere (literally anywhere) in the country? This truck will be my "office" for the next 10 years, I would prefer to get it exactly like I want it.

    TIA

I don't know what options you want, this is at least most of the ones mentioned.

I took Tundradude34's advice and searched on autotrader. I had to drive hundreds of miles but I found my 6.5 ft bed Platinum for $2,800 under MSRP a month ago.

Try Toyota of Boardman up close to Canfield/Youngstown area. I hear they’ve got quite a few on their lot. Many dealerships can pull unallocated inventory too.

I had the same problem. The tough part was finding a 6.5 bed in an upper trim level. I got an "allocation" at my local dealer for a Premium build this month. "Ordered" Lunar Rock with TRD, Tow mirrors, bed step and running boards. Toyota decided to build a white truck with a factory 3" lift. But hey, it had a 6.5' bed so what am I complaining about?
Didn't want it, so had to start all over. I just prowled all the sites as above and contacted several dealers within a couple hundred miles about incoming vehicles.

I was just randomly searching one day and found a 1794 in Mesquite with a 6.5' bed that had popped up on a dealer's site. Called and put $500 down with CC and was there in 3 hours to pick it up. I think someone bailed on an order. Paid MSRP but they matched my best trade in # at other dealers.

I've ordered several cars over the years. At other car companies I've dealt with, an "allocation" means the customer gets to pick colors, options, etc and the car company builds the car that way (at least pre COVID). But even during and after COVID, I could order what I wanted and if was an option or part unavailable the dealer would be told. I guess it's just Toyota being Toyota.

Good luck. Imagine trying to do this without the internet!

My ideal truck would be a Capstone double cab with an 8' bed...

Was doing the same past several months. I found using Toyota's search and setting up a a watch on autotrader worked the best for me. The linky for toyota, change the search parameters to what you are looking for. It is limited to 500mile radius on the input zipcode.

There will be a influx of 1000+ tundras once the fuel the fuel line recall is solutioned, should be good deals. The recall vehicles are not listed in the finder today.

Must have been a recent push to move '23 inventory as I called several dealers in Aug, none would meet my price. Then near end of Sept over 2 days, several called to deal. I ended up picking mine up 700 miles away. Got exactly what I wanted and was broken in on the way home

allocation in toyota sense is not the same as ordering vs the big 3. big 3 have a proper order system where you pick and choose what you want and they build that exact request. toyota builds vehicles in a preset order and options by a computer based system (based on previous sales history on model/trim/options). once your request for certain model/trim/options is built, it is allocated to a region then dealer based on internal rules per region and the regional port then decides which dealer gets that allocation.

this a general description of how the toyota allocation process is done. a more detailed explaination is in a link to a post on the forums in my signature.

Makes sense because looking on dealer sites and auto trader, the majority of models are all crewmax shortbed since it’s the most commonly purchased setup.
