Hi! I have may be unusual problem with my truck: When I'm going to surfing I want to lock my truck with mechanical key and leave electronic key inside. It works for locking, but when I unlock car with mechanical key it triggers alarm every time. According to manual:
"Using the mechanical key to lock
the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the
mechanical key when the alarm system
is set, the alarm may be triggered."

Apparently, alarm system get set even I use mechanical key to lock truck. Here is the questions: What I'm doing wrong? Is there way to disable alarm system? Is there setting somewhere I can change to prevent triggering alarm when using mechanical key?

I’m not really seeing the problem. You leave the fob in the truck and lock with physical key. Go surfing then come back and unlock with physical key, truck alarm goes off, grab the fob and disarm it. Seems pretty simple to me lol

Well, that what I do, but it attracts a lot off attention when alarm goes off.

Do you carry your phone with you? If so then you could just unlock it with the app.

Have you tried turning the fob off before you leave it in the vehicle? While holding lock, press unlock twice.

    What’s wrong with stock?
    I use this receiver safe.

    https://www.masterlock.com/products/product/1467DAT

I wrap the fob in tinfoil to isolate the signal and it works great. I don’t have to carry anything when I’m out playing around. This one in particular has been discontinued but you can still find one out there on eBay and such. You can also use a lock box like realtors use one alock it on the hitch.

Can confirm the problem and don't have a solution. Locking the Fob outside in one of those "lock boxes" is slightly better than leaving the truck running when you leave. Lots of videos of them being picked in seconds with a simple tool.

My manual explicitly states that the valet key to unlock will trigger the alarm. And it does.

Page 541 of my manual also says:
Using the mechanical key to lock
the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the
mechanical key when the alarm system
is set, the alarm may be triggered.
    (P.76)

But, when I lock with the mechanical key, the alarm does set after 30 seconds. So, something is wrong.

    Card key?

There’s a thread or three about some Lexus “credit card” style keys being compatible with the Tundras - if you check the FCC ID and they match up they should work.

    Is that “credit card” waterproof?

The FOBs don't seem to like salt water in my experience. But, maybe the thin card in a waterproof pouch could work. I know some people who surf with their phones in a pouch when "on call". Still, I want the mechanical key option to work.

    Any progress?
I have the exact same problem in my 2024 Sequoia and I stumbled on this thread while searching for a solution. Like sandiegosteve, I do not trust lockboxes. I also don't want the alarm to sound even for a second since I often park in front of private residences at the beach during dawn patrol. The alarm is just rude.
This is my first Toyota, and I'm definitely disappointed there isn't a solution for an outdoor-focused brand. My 2015 GMC Yukon didn't have this problem and would silently unlock with the key even when the fob was in the car.

No news so far. I asked in few dealerships, none of them know anything.
