These steps refresh your gas gauge cluster if it is showing an incorrect amount. For example you know you have half of a tank (and your wife never secretly fills the tank for you) then suddenly it’s displaying a full tank. This will not fix the issue, this just allows you to know how much fuel you actually have in your tank.

I talked to my lead tech at my local Toyota dealership and he said they are aware of the issue, it is a software fix, but those take a while to test to make sure that it’s not affecting any other system in the truck.

If you suspect your fuel gauge is off, step 1 is to simply remove the gas tank. Jk

1- Come to a stop and while still in DRIVE turn off the truck

    Then off

2- Take a deep and calming breath and Shift to Park
    045489A3-A9A8-4332-AAF5-887F27B32BCE.jpg

3- Hold perfectly still, don’t even breathe, and watch your gas gauge to see if it moves

4-Take your foot off the brake sad at how little gas you actually have and turn off the truck fully

BTW all that dust came from the mountains I’ve conquered

Always use instant mpg, more useful than the average at teaching a driver to be economically efficient. Like dont let it hit 10 or using downshifting to hold that 99 a little longer...sucking at 'coast & squirt' is more common than most folks realize.

This post definitely validated my choice to wrap my piano black trim piece around my shifter. Scratch magnet :(

Squirt, get to the speedlimit safely, but quickly, then try to coast.
Coast, use minimum throttle to climb hills or pass. Sometimes involves dropping to a lower gear for more power @ 20% throttle.

on the highway, i can commit to that around 50%. Sometimes i need to accelerate around someone, or slow to hold momentum where the efftards use unnecessary brakes.

really gets you in the mood to take all traffic offenses personally. And keep you attentive to your own traffic 'Edda quit' lol, that was my iphones spell check.

Haha so I read this and marched out to my truck with cleaner to see how the scratches look, dammit!

So the first photo has now been changed, but there are some light scratches that really just show up in the photo. So weird. Hard to see with the eyeball, easy in the photo. Those white specs are from a paper towel and again easy to see in the photo, barely there in real life. What’s the world coming to when photos don’t depict real life!

I just wish Toyota didn't choose to put arguably the most easily scratched surface known to man in the spot that has the most things coming in contact with it. Only took like an hour to throw a vinyl wrap on it if you were so inclined. I suppose it is still better than the glossy fake wood-grain of the past? *cough* GMC *cough*

I picked some sort of satin dark gray metallic. Considering changing the color to match the silver piece above it a bit better, but honestly it doesn't stick out at all either way.

@j.b. Wrap looks really good. Did you have to pull the black trim piece out to wrap it or can you wrap it in place?

I pulled it all out. Some guy made a youtube video on it, and I just followed that. Took the guesswork out of the equation.

Oh wow so I just did that and the gas gauge dropped down. My question was it correct at the higher level or at the lower level.

I have found that whatever it moves to when I do this process is the correct amount, provided you are on flat ground when you do it

Just a note if you decide to wrap it yourself. Pay attention at the electrical plugs when reconnecting them. There are a total of 3 plugs behind the plate. 2 of them can be plug in to the other one causing your switch to burn. I made that mistake and tech said I swapped the 2 wires. This burned my switch and I was I was stuck in 4H and you will not be able to switch it back to 2L. Yes you can swap them and they will go in. Bad design as they are so close to each other that you can accidentally swap them.

Assuming this only applies to 4x4 trucks then?
