How to tell if it’s an acoustic windshield?

I bought the truck (23 platinum) with a crack in the windshield. The dealer is replacing it tomorrow and I want to make sure it is replaced with the same glass. Is there a way to tell if the windshield is acoustic? While it’s there she’s getting Icon on the corners and some 35s! Should be a good day! Thanks in advance for the help.

I tried the parts search you linked above. It didn’t come up with anything. Wondering if there was some indication on the glass itself.

Ok. If there’s nothing obvious to it, I’ll just make sure whatever numbers I can find, match up with the new one. Thanks.

I’m surprised Vitro is making the Toyota windshield. Typically Toyota uses AGC. But with tundra built in Texas and vitro being US based I shouldn’t be too surprised. The acoustics come from the PVB layer that the two pieces of glass laminate against. Usually windshield will state acoustic on the decal. I’m not seeing that but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not acoustic.

@Talltugger make sure your windshield says Vitro on it. That’s the best way to ensure it’s truly factory.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I “trust” the dealer, they have been great so far, but as always Trust but verify.

Anytime! And if you have further questions let me know. The business I work for sells glass for car windows so I am more than happy to answer questions.

I would be curious the cost of that. Are the rear doors laminated? Laminating the side windows is a big trend. The noise reduction is like 10x better than a normal single ply window

ahh okay got it. Yes typically lamination triples the cost of a normal window so companies make sure the driver and passenger get that comfort

Does it mention that the Regular, Non Acoustic glass is still laminated? If it isn't laminate then Toyota is literally stealing from people

The glass is probably the cheapest part of the procedure. All the nanny's (ADAS) on the glass will need to be moved and aligned.

All windshields are laminated for the last 30 years or so. It's a safety requirement via the feds. Otherwise hitting a bird on the highway could give you a lap full of glass.

I think a laminated windshield is required by law. The type of laminate may be different for the acoustic version

Is that a typo, or are you finding that the acoustic front windows are cheaper than their non-acoustic counterparts?

Sorry I should have clarified I was referring to the side windows being laminated in for the non acoustic version. But yes you both are correct, windshields are required by law to be laminated

As 'luck' would have it someone smashed my passenger side front glass to help themselves to a well used jacket and a 7 year old diaper bag last night! Looks like everyone lost in this transaction.

I have a 2023 Limited, just ordered up the Capstone acoustic glass as per the part #'s above (68101-0C050). MSRP in Canada is approximately $330, and the regular glass is a little more as expected.

Should be installing this weekend, I'll post my results. From what I can tell all the tracks, seals, window regulator are identical between the trim levels.

I'm going to bring my digital capliers to measure the thickness of my drivers side window glass and compare with the acoustic glass to make sure there isn't a huge difference.

    I'll keep you posted.

This glass thread is interesting, so let’s make sure I understand. If the glass says Vitro on it that means it is factory and acoustic ? or is that just factory window how do you tell if the front vitro window or side windows has the sound deadening …….. i guess im confused

So the sideglass glass changeout was a success on my Limited, replaced my broken standard passenger window with the laminated glass from the higher trim (68101-0C050).

Took me around 90 minutes, biggest issue was trying to clean up all the broken glass from the felts, tracks and bits stuck in my rust proofing at the bottom of the door cavity. Actual installation of the new glass only took a few minutes.

Thickness of the factory single panel glass on the drivers side is approximately 0.1995" and the replacement laminated window is 0.205" so only 5 thou difference, no issues. Tinting/glass colour appears to be the same from what I can tell.

Auto up/down works as expected. However someting weird did happen, for a short period my drivers side switch for passenger side would not work nor would auto up/down, local passenger door switch worked fine manually. I was trying to be careful with keeping the battery disconnected when unplugging modules in the door however perhaps I got out of order, after the last battery reconnect and reassembly all is working well. I´ll scan for BCM codes later, maybe disconnected a CANBUS module with battery still applied.

I´ll see if it makes any difference to sound level, my previous truck (2017 Titan) had laminated side glass but was by no means a quiet vehicle.

Here is a profile shot the edge of the window for Lake.life, looks very similiar to the laminated side glass in my wifes Acura MDX and my previous Titan.

Typically manufacturers will put on the window that its acoustic but not always. So it is very difficult to know for sure, because the sound deadening is 1 of four layers in the windshield. You will unfortunately just have to take the dealers word for it. But always try to get replacement windows made by the company that does the factory. That is the best way to know you are getting the correct windshield. In this case it's Vitro for the windshield and AGC for the side windows
