Driving down the road today,....actually coasting, the truck shutters and shakes and i get this warning ........Hybrid Malfunction Failure ....power reduced, call dealer

Pulled over cycled the power, same warning and so I drove past the dealer to make an appointment.

They took the truck right in, 2 hours later they called to come retrieve it. Has a Hybrid Converter Failure.....new one gets installed in 2 weeks, truck is fine to drive.

So I drive home from the dealer and it is running 100% normal.

    WTF.

Yup, first models of a new power train, coupled with the fact like 90% failures are going to occur in the first 10% of life - for any manufactured device, not just cars. Glad it's all covered though!

Pretty disconcerting… was it a software bug then? Maybe a bad ECU or whatever the computer is that manages the hybrid system? I’ll be curious to hear what the fix is…

It has to be software as the truck is running 110% normal right now, so it isnt mechanical. They have some part ordered that will get installed the 20th.

Gonna get that fake engine noise deleted the same time

Just put 1000 kms on 2024 Toyota hybrid platinum and my hybrid malfunction is on with other warnings like brake, check engine light, collision warning errors. Truck wouldn’t start for the longest time but then finally fired up but engine was pulsating and running rough. I’m 200kms away from dealership and wondering if it’s safe to drive or will the darn thing blow up with all those hybrid batteries? It’s -20 Celsius right now. Any advice would be helpful

Honestly. This doesn’t sound good. It seems similar to others that had bearing failure. The engine would shut off. Then wouldn’t start. After cooling off and the expanded metal parts contracted, the motor finally fired up but was running g horribly and making noise. I wouldn’t drive it as it could become a total motor failure, if it isn’t already. Hopefully it’s not the issue though

Call your dealership in the morning and tell them what's happening. They may pay to have it loaded and towed back to them to check out. I don't think I'd risk driving it there if the engine runs rough.

EDIT: Free towing within 300 km. At least in Canada.

This. A good dealer will come and fetch it. If they can't for whatever inexcusable reason, try getting it into some kind of nearby heated garage to thaw it out. The 40 degree swing from -20C to +20C might get it running well enough (or clear the issue) to take to the dealer, but if it's still running poorly, don't chance it.

You will, however, have to name your truck snowflake from this point on.

Yeah I wasn’t thinking it’s bearings being a new 2024. But wondering if the malfunction will go out on its own or will have to be reset on a diagnostic computer regardless

Some board in the Hybrid system is all they said. Worked fine since repair.

In saying that I have an appointment tomorrow and am buying the extended warranty on this thing. I have had a hybrid failure and corroded wiring in 1 year.

My truck has 38k miles and the weather was about 60 degrees out. Never had any check engine lights or hybrid malfunctions before. Truck was built on 1/22 one of the first 1200 hybrid trucks built.

This came up on my 23. 12500km (about 8k miles). Hybrid inverter failure. In the shop and it’ll be 3 weeks before I get it back. Mine had some charging issues before though.
