Hey Folks, New member here considering a Tundra to tow 8k trailer due in a few months. Old school thought process, kinda like the idea of a straight ICE drivetrain, and not enamored with a system that is constantly starting and shutting off the ICE depending upon load requirements.
I understand that Toyota has the best hybrid products out there, and as a 20-year 4runner owner I am a fan of Toyota in general, so is the standard twin turbo 6 sufficient to tow 8000 pounds without the hybrid, and would the hybrid raise the performance satisfaction?
    Thanks all.
    Dan

Not many will be able to answer that question since you need someone who has towed identical trailers with both engines.

There are a handful of first impressions from the launch, the iForceMax generally was popular for its instant power with a trailer on.

Either engine is more than capable of dealing with an 8000lb trailer though. Real world testing has shown the V35A-FTS operating by itself is getting better economy than the old 5.7L, and better performance.

Don’t let all the tards who can’t read or do basic math tell you otherwise. The new engines simply outperform the 5.7L and burn less fuel doing it.

I did a 4.4K miles trip with a similar weight trailer. The power on the hybrid is there when you are passing and need that extra power or you want to get speed. BUT most of the drive the engine uses just the turbos, if you put it on cruise control 99% of the time I did was just turbos. If you want to use the battery don’t do CC. I learned how to get the battery to come more often by releasing the gas and giving gas again then the battery kicks in.
I did LA to New Orleans to San Antonio to Albuquerque to Grand Canyon to LA.

I have the non hybrid. Compared to having a 5.7 for 8yrs the power is definitely noticable from a stand still. The truck seems to get up to speed effortlessly compared to my other trucks. They were no slouches by any means but felt like they were laboring a bit more to get going. I thought I wanted a hybrid but hate to lose the under seat storage that I didn't have in the older CM. I could only imagine what another 100+ lb ft of tq would feel like.

Have only towed with the hybrid but wouldn’t buy one without it
