Hello guys. New member here on Tundras.com but been a long time member on TW. Anyways looking at purchasing a 22/23 Tundra with the hybrid or gas motor. Ive test drove the hybrid and loved the power in it. I haven't driven the gas motor yet but ive heard that its still plenty strong. Ill be towing my fully built Tacoma on a flatbed trailer. Do yall think it would be worth paying the extra $ for the hybrid power train? Also more stuff to go wrong? Or is the hybrid from everyone's experience pretty solid so far. Thanks. pic of truck ill be towing below.

Probably total will be between 7-8k Total weight.

I live on the east coast. Ill be towing in mountains and flat areas. Appalachian mountains. AL/TN/GA/NC/KY/WV areas. Probably about 4-5 times a year. So not too often but i will have to go long distances with the trailer.

    Thanks,

non-hybrid would be fine for that, that will save you cost, complexity, and gain storage under the seat for all other times.

toyota knocked it out of the park for towing improvements over the last gen, there are several threads here with all the people who have towed and its pretty much a 100% consensus, this thing tows awesome for a 1/2 ton

    some dealers will allow that

when I tested, I took the truck all the way home alone, made sure it fit in garage, etc.

I do have a really good dealer though

Im probably going to be buying from a dealer a state over so probably wont be an option lol. Maybe someone whos got some miles on their hybrid can speak up to the reliability.

This was just posted on the Tundra FB group this morning. Apparently its a non hybrid.

    upload_2024-1-3_9-15-17.png

10% and 13% loss at the wheels for torque and HP. Whats odd is the torque number is way better than the dyno run of a hybrid pro someone posted online so take it for what its worth. Either way I think you would be fine with the non hybrid. More interior storage, less complex, cheaper up front, etc.

Went from an 08’ Tundra to the Hybrid for towing my 7k+ camper. Night/day difference and the 08’ pulled fine. Did 10k miles to Alaska & back this summer. Happy camper & glad I made the purchase.
Can’t comment on the gas for towing. But, Toyota does hybrid better than anyone imo & I think resale will offset the initial price difference.

I test drove the hybrid and was blown away at the power. Barley stepped on pedal and that thing was moving. Just need to see how the non hybrid feels as well.

For what its worth, I tow with 23 1794 TRD OR 4x4. Use Equalizer hitch and tow a 5800 lb rv. Does a great job. Glad I bought the hybrid. Great power and plenty of torque. Also have aftermarket air suspension. Totally satisfied.

100% agreed. Tows better than any other 1/2 ton I've ever towed with (owned or borrowed/rented).

I tow a roughly 7500# travel trailer fully loaded. Non-hybrid here and never once have I wished I got the hybrid instead. The V35A-FTS Type '21 just has tons of power and torque, towing with this thing is a breeze. The power curve is ridiculous, peak torque is just under 500 lb-ft at 2400rpm and it's pretty much flat from there up to 4500rpm or so. Even at 2000rpm this truck pulls like a mofo.
