This morning I was in for 25,000 service on my 2023 SR5 Double Cab with TRD Off Road Package. I purchased this truck on 4 November 2022. It was (Apparently) built October 2022. I have not received anything from Toyota regarding the engine recall(apart from on the app), however I decided to check on the status of the engine recall while I was there. I sat down with the gal that does the scheduling. She found that my V.I.N. indicated that the remedy was not yet available. She then figured out the remedy for my truck based on V.I.N.and date of manufacture would be available July of this year. She said she would get the engine ordered for me at that time, and schedule me in August. Their policy is to do one engine swap every two weeks. Always on a Monday. It usually takes four days, and they provide the customer with either a Tundra or a Taco. She asked me about my auto insurance company. Apparently they do not deal with Progressive. Sounds like they only have one technician doing engine swaps, thus only one every two weeks, allowing for the technician to work on more profitable things in between.

What would your insurance company have anything to do with the dealer replacing a defective engine under a safety recall? Are they going to not do the recall if you have a certain insurance carrier?

Every day with these posts. They’re going in order from oldest to newest. Based on all the other posts posted here daily it seems like they’re in the 4/2022 roughly build dates currently for replacing engines. Anything newer is being told it’s not their turn yet

same in my case...they have a list of insurance companies that dont cover rental vehicles. They simply ask that you pay for rental insurance if you have any of those on the list. Doesnt stop the engine replacement process

I mean - we don’t need to belabor this here - but that’s not how insurance works. If someone wants to buy a new car and has progressive are they not letting them test drive the vehicle?

Toyota is going to care when they get the insurance bill from this dealer playing dumb games.

It won’t be, the dealer will deal with the consequences.

I am guessing because they are providing the customer with a vehicle to drive, they must have it set up so the customer's insurance would cover a potential loss. Perhaps Progressive does not play ball.

Or this dealer is just butt hurt over past dealings with the insurance company. Progressive doesn’t sell fake insurance. That’s fraud.

then a dealer problem...not mine :) simply stating what Ive seen and been told. In my case, the loaner/rentals are not from the dealer directly...they are handled by an on-site 3rd party.

As long as your VIN shows not available they can NOT order your engine
