Get into something with a small bed and awd capability for under 30k but just at this guy expecting it to approach his Tacoma's capability.

 

Damned fool bought a pinstripe performance package. If he can't get better than 13 MPG in a Tacoma the eco mode isn't going to help him much. The locking glovebox? They are about as secure as a closed ziploc bag

The maverick is a car, shaped like a truck, but still a car. "I want more mpg. I also want the vehicle lifted up higher" Those two don't go together. Car and capability also don't go well together.

 

Depends what kind of capability you're looking for. This would carry more stuff than my wife's Corolla but get better fuel economy around town than my truck. Not everyone off roads.

Yes, this. I see a legit market in the era of 45k compact trucks and 70k full sized ones for a 30k all weather vehicle that can carry bulky stuff home from Home Depot and get 25 mpg all day. The lack of self awareness it takes for someone to do a review like this not expecting wide ridicule is what gets me.

 

Although I guess the case could be made that Ford is also kind of begging for the Derp to come out of the woodwork by slapping an FX4 sticker on it.

A guy I work with has one. He moved from one of those toaster looking Kia's. Minor improvement?

 

That’s right, its probably an act anyway in order to get attention and “clicks”.

 

The maverick gets 40mpg and hauls 90% of what most people put in a bed. Ice chest and folding chairs.

Oof those tires, that’d be the #1 upgrade before slapping 5k of junk in the bed. Looks like that size every AT tire (29”) is about 180$ and relatively light.

How anyone can consider purchasing a vehicle with that god awful interior says a lot. Looks like the interior of a Yugo.

The comparison was to a Yugo. Younger crowd here may not be familiar. I once rode in my friends Yugo (poor fella) onto our high school campus one night and drove that thing through the breezeways.

 

My point was if there's a vehicle with a tiny interior, it's the 3rd Gen Taco.

 

No bullshit, I saw a “TREMOR” branded one the other day.

 

I was curious and priced this out, cheapest FX package is a XLT with AWD 2.0 ecoboost at 30k before delivery/tax etc. The awd 2.0 is rated for 25mpg combined. With a 2022 Tacoma SR5 4wd SCSB being 37.5k at 20mpg. To me that’s a pretty tough sell from a stock to stock comparison vs the cons of getting a crossover like vehicle (whereas the hybrid maverick at upper 30s is a big improvement but only fwd haha). I would imagine his poor Tacoma mileage was due to modifications (tires and camper etc), where this Maverick is likely getting nonstock mpg as well. What stuck out to me too was the claim for lower maintenance costs with the maverick vs taco, lol no way.

 

He mentioned the Tremor package in the video lol. It sounds very disappointing.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how people rationalize paying a higher monthly payment to save fuel. People will literally pay more money to get better fuel mileage. It makes no sense and it annoys the hell out of me.
