I think a rodent got me. Transmission and engine codes.

When it rains, it pours.. I got a list of codes between yesterday and today, and either my battery is dying, I have a major electrical problem again or a rodent got me. Eitherway 07 5.7L 295k 2wd.

I'm up to 20 codes at this point and time and I feel the truck turning in to a Bronco as it started bucking last night out of 3rd gear.
Yesterday I got about 9 codes some of these kept repeating, at this point P0894 will come on with any Performance stuck off code.

P0973 Shift solenoid "A" control circuit low
p0751 Shift solenoid "A" performance stuck off
    p0894 Transmission component slipping
P2714 Performance "D" stuck off (replaced this)
    C1201 ABS code

This afternoon with a cold start, hot start and codes reset P0973 was an immediate CEL on both starts, the latter codes were after operating temperature.

P0973 Shift solenoid "A" control circuit low
    P0335 Crankshaft position "A" Sensor
P0973 Shift solenoid "A" control circuit low
P0340 Camshaft position "A" sensor circuit bank 1
    P0345Camshaft position "A" sensor circuit bank 2
P0365 Camshaft position "B" sensor circuit bank 1
P0390 Camshaft position "B" sensor circuit bank 2

Battery is basically new, an Interstate battery from Costco, I may just pull it and get it tested. The Interstate battery on my Celica lasted exactly 11 months and it was bad. Sticker stated March, 2023 got a new one yesterday for $11. So I'm leaning towards my battery dying. I did take a quick gander at the ECM wiring and it appears to be ok. I will need to do some digging when I have time. With my trips to Duarte, CA and constant doctor visits I may just drop it off at a shop and have them look at it. Anyone else have any input. I may consider my ground wire going bad too, just too many codes all of a sudden...

EDIT: Here is the link to my previous transmission issues.

Pop the hood and look at the firewall area on the passenger side as well as under the engine cover.

I removed the engine cover long ago, due to a slight overheating issue. Lived near Mexicali long ago and dealership suggested this so it's been gone since 08. I did pop the hood and don't see any visible damage, nor any nest on eitherside.

For your sake I hope the ECM threw codes for battery voltage as rodent damage sucks. My Tundra seems to be a target. I'll take a battery/alternator swap any day over rodents.

To your point, wonk system voltages while cranking can throw a sh^t ton of random codes.

    Yes, I'm
Yesterday was a little busy with work, doctor's appointment and extracurricular activities, so I didn't have much time to look at it. While I did put some more miles on it, I cleared the codes once again, but that P0973 is a permanent code as it comes right back when I restart, which leads me to believe that it's more than likely bad. I checked underneath the truck and didn't see any noticeable damage, so I pulled the battery last night and will take it to be tested and charged later today. I took some pictures of the wiring from the top and it all seems to be intact as of now. I'm also concerned with water intrusion as I turned on my sprinklers on the same day these codes came on. In addition to those issues that side took a nice hit about a year ago, and about a week before all this happened the alarm was set off. It appeared no one touched from my neighbor's point of view, just started out of the blue sky. I may definitely have an electrical issue coming up, or the battery is just dying. I'll figure that out around mid-day today. When I take a break I'll upload the pictures and drop off my battery at the O'Reilly or Autozone for testing.

Hopefully it's nothing major. My stress level would be through the roof lol.

He has been handling the "stress" part rather well with the "extracurricular" activities.

My stress level is already through the roof.... My passenger side door handle on my SC snapped off this week, so I can't even take the wife to the doctor's in it, since she can't get out in case of an emergency. And we all know nothing is going to happen except that 1 time we take the risk and it happens.

LMAO. I walked right into that one. What I meant is taking my kid to extracurricular activities.

Ok, Battery was tested and it came back as good. 100% the first test and 96% the second test 5 seconds later. I guess we can rule out the battery. I will roll it up on ramps tonight and take a closer look from below. I'm buying a test light my brother recommended to get proper voltage from the wiring. I've chased down the wiring diagrams and am looking for a blue wire that interconnects pretty much all 3 circuits, if I understood it correctly. At the end of the day it may be that 1 wire, or the ECM all together. If I don't see any breaks in the wire I may consider dropping this pan again and replacing the solenoid or pulling the ECM and inspecting it for water damage.

My SC did similar things before I got the ECM rebuilt due to leaking capacitors: among the issues was the transmission would act awkwardly, low idle, high idle, intermittent no start and sudden stalling issues, among other things. I didn't get a chance to post ocular pleasure, but on my next break I'll post some, including the damaged caused by the Corolla rock climbing my fender.

not too serious, but did bend that A pillar inward. Unless something was pinched there, doubt it woukd take a year to show up..

it looks like you have the smaller battery option. (which Costco also gave me by default) The smaller one lasted less than a year for me in a battery friendly area. I replaced it with the larger one and it seems to be better. I wasn't experiencing what you are describing, but I had a few odd electrical gremlins. Also, check the chassis ground directly under the driver's seat under the truck. I've heard that will cause trans issues.

Yeah the 24F? I thought it was small, as it's the same as my SC400.. When my last battery died late last year, I just took that 1 and swapped it over, but it did have all kind of electrical issues. Like stalling in Drive and other fun and exciting surprises. Once I got a new one it was good to go, which is this one here.... I'll check the ground on that side, since I'm pretty sure the issues must be linked to a common ground.

I'll also have to check my cabin air filter, since I haven't checked that one in a good while

Updating this, as to not leaving it as a cliffhanger...

It appears the issues has been resolved. I've been having maybe 2 issues, but 1 I pinned on the throttle body gasket after I replaced it, but removed it 1 more time to reset the intake tube on the metal portion.

The issue I was having was I could hear a whine, similar to the air injection pump everytime I was on and off the gas. Never got a code for this, but assuming the transmission was getting ready to exit the chat.

The P0973 comes with a loss of 2nd to 3rd and possibly 4th gear, but all other gears were good, you can definitely feel it falling on its face. Eitherway I looked up the hard code of P0973 on here and there was a thread with 2 part numbers and I ordered the first 1st one like a dummy.
    Part number: 3521050010
CLUTCH CONTROL, NO. 1; CLUTCH CONTROL, NO. 2; SOLENOID(SL1); SOLENOID(SL2)

Well, after I replaced it, the computer thought about it and the code came right back after resetting the codes. So I looked up the 2nd number 3514050060
    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 3WAY; SOLENOID(SR).

But for $500, I looked up a generic Rockauto part number for $65, with all the medical stuff my wife is going through I can't over extend on this, atleast not right now. Don't fret though I'm sure I'll be doing it again next year, but I'm setting cash aside for double the amount, since I'm sure it will inflate to that by then. Most notable, the whine is gone completely, assuming it was the S1 solenoid putting in its 2 week notice.

So far the code has not come back, just my usual C1201 code. Probably my passenger rear caliper seizing up. BTW it appears the bolts have been superseeded and look beefier. Unless I got the wrong part number, but from the parts diagram at my local stealership, it was the correct one. Je n'est sais pas .... I'll dig out my 4 left over bolts and compare and contrast.
