I want to buy a 2013 Tundra Platinum and get it lifted. The dealership wants to charge $8,600

Discussion in '2nd Gen Tundras (2007-2013)' started by Johnny4X4, May 5, 2018.

?

Is $8,600 too much to pay for a professional lift, including wheels and tires?

I'm going to purchase a Tundra but I'm looking for the best deal on a 4" lift kit installation.

Which lift? Which tires and wheels? A spacer lift will be around 2 hours to install.

Typical suspension lift is around 4 hours. Figure $100/hour = $400 for lift install dependent on lift/UCA’s alignment etc.

Find a reputable shop. Make sure shop will install parts you will buy for your lift. Never have a dealership install your lift, they Jack the price. Good luck

$8,600 sounds like a GREAT price for '13 platinum. For lift install.....not so much. In all fairness, a lot more info about specifics is required to answer correctly.

+1, way too much even with top of the line tires and wheels. Go to Discount for tires and wheels then order lift you want and order it. Next find a shop you trust to install. Probably cut that 8600 in half. I had a dealer try to charge me $400 to install TRD exhaust. Talked the down to $150. They pissed me off so I bought somewhere else.

A REALLY nice mid travel setup..... ADS 2.5 C/O, ADS triple bypass rears, MCM UCAs and deaver leafs is roughly $4,5oo. 305 70 r18 tires around $1,200. If you pay 8hrs labor a $100/per. You're left with $2,300 for wheels.......

Hmmm icon stage 7 with Methods and whatever tires and alignment maybe. Pro comp spacer lift with fuel wheels and 33’s no way in hell.

I say that as someone that has bought 2 different lifted Toyota’s from dealerships. I did it because like some others, I like the fact that if something goes bad it’s as simple as take it back to Toyota and it should get fixed without toyota blaming the lift company and whatnot. However, I will never do this again as long as I can avoid impulse buys lol. I haven’t paid anything close to your quoted price and my Tundra has a 6” lift Fuel wheels and 35’s.

Hmmm since it is the lift, wheels, tires, and labor ... it depends what those components are.

300 spacer lift ? Vs 5000 coil over / bracket lift?

800 cast wheels? Vs 5000 forged?

What’s the details? Then we can tell better if it’s worth it. ;)

Lol I just saw a local Chevy Dealer with a 2015 Tundy and actually my gf saw it had me go check it out. They are asking 45k for it lol when it looked like an Sr5 crewmax with a 6" lift and fuel Tritons with a cheap black Grille inserts. The ad said it had 8k in upgrades So maybe 4K to get that stuff bought for me. That's what all the dealers are doing by us up here north of Chicago. Buying almost every used truck they can get their hands on doings some mods and throwing it out front to find a sucker. I'd bet they paid 25k for the truck.

Sounds like way too damn much, but specifics on the lift/tires/wheels would help.

The Dealership 99.9% of time is not your most affordable to get work done. As mentioned, get quotes from local offroad shops. You could easily have a few $K left over.

If you are thinking financing all together, it could make easier but with higher payment. If this is being considered, take lower quotes to dealer and and get their attention, bet they would lower that price....

when I had my Tacoma, I had the following done at a local shop:
    • toytec ultimate lift kit
    • total chaos UCA
    • 285/75/16 mickey Thompson MTZ's
    • 16x8 moto metal wheels
    • cab mount chop
    • weld on sliders
all the parts and labor (including alignment) was about $4300. That's half of what the dealer quoted you and it included more stuff (sliders, cab mount chop, and UCA's). like others have said, look for a reputable local shop.

financing at more than 0% just compounds the problem. Now you are paying interest on something that you are way over paying for. Auto dealers make their money off the suckers. I recently looked at the original paperwork on my daugher's Ford Escape. The older couple I bought it from paid $2600 for a 75,000 "Platinum" warranty and had the dealer install a trailer hitch so they could haul their bicyles around. I hate to see nice people get taken advantage of. Not sure what they paid for the hitch but it also included a wire harness. I bet the dealer convinced them to buy a couple hundred more for the harness that they did not need.

    Agreed.
Financing extras like this is at Dealer not something I usually condone. There are a few of those who can afford, pay down aggressively, and may make sense more for convenience. Most however do not fall into that category.

Yes, absolutely depends on what your financing rate is. I agree that that price sounds very high, but if you have a good interest rate, the convenience of just having it included into the payment is nice. Also being able to take it back to the dealer and let them handle any problems, if you have any, is also a bonus. That price though..............o_O

All that being said , I guess i'm just hating on whoever can afford that truck with the work already done. I bought my 2014 1794 edition for 31k and now it's driving me crazy driving around with the little stock 20's on it because I don't have the $$$ to get my preferred lift and rims and tires. I'd love to have a finished product right now but it's more fun making this truck mine one part at a time.

Thanks for all of your reply's. The dealership wanted to install a Procomp lift, Procomp tires and Fuel Assault wheels. Insane, right?! Now my question to the good folks on here is where to find a reputable shop? I live in the Eastbay area, Oakland, CA. to be specific and I need the name or location of some good shops that do this kind of work.

Okay, with that being said.. it’s obviously not going to be coilover Lift, just a spacer Lift.. way to much.. you can get

Pro Comp or BDS or Ready Lift kit 4-6 inches for $1700-2k

    Wheels and tires $2400-3k

    Install 1k

So under 6k you can get a better lift then what you were quoted with Fab tech

This is the cost for my Tundras
On my Gen 2 Skyjacker 6" drop bracket lift with full rear leaf pack, 35" Micky Thompson rims and tires cost $5500, I did the labor.
On my Gen1 mid travel ADS 2.5 C/O with clicker and rear 2.5 piggy back, Deaver G57 and Camberg UCA cost $4800, I did the labor.
