Being a new Tundra owner, I already really miss the door keypad from my Ford. I often go biking and don’t want to carry my keys on me, but want the truck secure.

I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal because I would just lock the truck with the app. But today I found out the app won’t lock the truck with the keys inside!!!

Anyone have any workarounds on this? Seems silly that not only does the truck not come with Phone as a Key, but then I can’t do this either.

I just toss my keys in a bush somewhere close by, make sure no one is looking. Worst case scenario is someone pees on your keys…….

Haha. Seems to me that for $93k there should be a better solution that doesn’t carry a risk of urination.

Maybe take the little manual key inside the FOB with you? Easier than your phone anyway, and your phone's not going to work unless you both have cell service anyway.

If you turn the fob off it will allow you to lock the truck with the key inside.

to turn off the fob, hold lock and press unlock twice. Light should flash 4 times.

toss the key in console and press the lock button and close the door and you’re good to go

to turn the fob back on simply push a button

I’ve been doing this for about 50 years. It’s especially helpful when several of us are hunting out of a truck but we all are going different directions. Some might be gone all day, others might come back for lunch. As long as they all know where I put the key, it’s all good!

    You just wait
As mentioned you can turn off the fob but if you don't feel like doing that you can also buy a Faraday pouch, That's what I do when I don't want to bring my keys and want to unlock my truck with my phone

I wouldn’t want to look like a loser now, would I? ;) Can’t have a full aero race bike with that hanging off :)

Unless you're secretly Lance Armstrong, it probably won't matter.

edit: Also, put the keys where you're currently putting your phone instead if the bag is that much of a *drag*.

Oh, it’s not about going faster, it’s about looking cool :D

and the main issue is I have more keys on my keyring that make it bulkier and not fun to carry.

The first rule of biking, as with life, is "look cool". Those saddle bags are the bike equivalent of a fanny pack. Zero cool factor.

I guess I'll stay uncool then. :notsure: There's a significant enough difference in riding my bike 5 miles out of the woods vs carrying my bike out because an easily accessible tire patch kit isn't cool.

When riding I am not leaving my keys behind inside the truck or in the weeds. They go in a ziploc bag and into one of the rear jersey pockets.
