If you bought a 2022 what did you trade-in (if you had a trade)? Curious how many traded a Tundra and who might have trade one of the big 3 or anything else. I have not bought one yet but sold my 2020 Limited Crewmax and waiting for the prices to (hopefully) come down. Not paying msrp or over.

yeah I don't really foresee prices coming down at least for MSRP anytime soon as they are trying to keep up with demand and people are reserving them quick. I feel like they wont lower prices of the 2022 until the 2023 comes out unfortunately.

The world has changed. We may never see the deep discounts we were used to just a few years ago. MSRP is a good price these days. That said, I would not pay over MSRP.

Traded in a Silverado and regret it. I wish I would have stayed with GM. Never even been close to having the issues I’m having now and the Toyota service departments in my area suck.

I traded in a 2019 F150 FX4 Crew cab. I have only had F150's until now. I am fortunately loving my 22 Tundra. It feels much more premium compared to the F150's I have had.

There are some good dealers out there. I had a great dealer that was fair to me. I traded a 2021 Gladiator. The prices on used are so outrageous that they gave me pretty much what I paid for it. I hope they sell it for a million dollars lol.

Tundra's typically sell for around sticker so if you get sticker (and if you look around you will) you got a good deal, but I doubt prices will be dropping anytime soon. Any dealers that say "call for price" aren't worth your time or effort. When I spoke to the salesman at the dealer I bought from, I asked him straight out how much over sticker are you selling? His response was "why would I want to do that?" I was sold.

I paid MSRP for my '22 SR5, and I traded in a 2010 RAV4 (120k miles) with severe hail damage (that insurance already paid out about $9k for) and got another $10k in trade-in value. I feel like if you're trading in a car right now, it's not a terrible time to buy because you're getting additional value out of the trade.

Sold my '18 Limited Crewmax for more than I paid for it (bought new). Purchased a '22 Limited Crewmax at $500 under MSRP, and only $75 for doc fees. They also gave me the Platinum warranty at employee pricing (zero deductible) for $1600. Not sure if the extended warranty was a good deal or not.

    I think 1600 is a good deal.

I got suckered into paying $2200 for the platinum warranty 125k, $50 deductible.
The finance guy started at around $3300 and I said gtfo.
For the convenience I don't regret it (oh well).

He traded in 2 highly sought after vehicles. He probably got $7-10k under true market value for them.

Dealer offered me $4,000 for my 2000 4Runner SR5 (V-6, 5 spd, rear dif lock) with 164,500 miles on it. I sold it on Craig’s list for $12,500. in less than a day. Don’t trade in!

not always so clear cut though when you have a higher trade in and tax break on the new one.

in my case it could be taxed on 68K (2022 platinum) vs 28-34K if I get 35-40K for my 2016 tundra.

just an example, its tough to tell sometimes, in your case, you nailed it

This is a difference of ~$2000. You will absolutely get $2k more through a private sale than a trade in.

I traded in a 2014 Platinum Crewmax with 4WD. I had 90K miles on it. I got $30K for the trade and paid MSRP for the new truck. Could I have sold the 2014 for more to a private buyer, yup. But I would have ended up paying $4200 in taxes on the 22' versus the $2200 I paid because I'm only taxed on the sale price after trade-in. So I would have had to sell the 14 for at least $2K more privately than the dealership would have given on the trade. Selling privately is more of a pain in the ass than letting the dealer handle it.

taxes are higher around here depending on what county. Im not sure I would want to mess around with a bunch of people either or trust somebody will bring that much cash, etc so its more than just the money as well.

I agree the trade values can be low though, I was only offered 34K so far when I test drove a new one. It was BS, gas prices are higher, these sit on the lots, etc. I was like dude you dont have a single truck on the lot , what is not moving exactly? anyways, it fell through since they couldn't get what I wanted anyway.

anyways, not sure what I will end up doing, trade or private sale, maybe Ill try to sell it here

thats not how any of this works. It’s a shell game. A good car deal is one that the seller and buyer agree upon and feel good about. You got a good car deal. But don’t get it twisted, the dealer did not lose any money on you. They will profit handsomely or they won’t make the deal.

They did a good job because you left there feeling this way. They definitely made money off of you. The deal would’ve not been done otherwise.

Remember guys. You can still negotiate with your trade unless your want to sell it yourself. I have two deals on the table right now. Both are essentially giving me the same for my 2019 Nissan Titan Platnum Reserve. Selling me a Tundra for MSRP and the other is selling me a Tundra for MSRP + $3K. The second deal is taking my Titan for $3K more than the first deal. It works out to be the same deal. That being said. I am trading my Titan in for $4k less than what I paid for it in 2019 (I got a sweet deal on the Titan because a buddy of mine owns the dealership). You can use your trade as your negotiating chip. It all evens out. I am getting almost 10k more in market value for my Titan than if we were in a normal market. As you know Titans do not hold their value in a normal market.

That being said, I should sell the Titan on my own, but I don't like the hassle. I could be convinced if anyone is interested :) 2019 Titan Platnum Reserve Loaded with only 35K miles on it.

Sorry to quote you "LuvCRVs", but apparently taschmidt86 deleted his posts but I absolutely guarantee the dealer made a killing on the trades. It is such a numbers game. As long as he is happy then good deal for him. Hope he enjoys his new ride

Id at least give private sale a shot. Most people are selling their Toyota SUV/trucks in a weekend. Trade in is definitely convenient.
