Denso 100% basically oem , our trucks don’t like aftermarket electronics. I bought autozone brand because I was in a pinch and they failed after 3k miles and I bought all Denso coils

I bought 8 Densos from Rock Auto (good for another ~20 years!). If I had to do it on the cheap I might consider MSD. Everything else seems to be too risky IMHO

Noooooooooooo. The MSDs are known to fail and malfunction quickly. Denso is the only way here.

I honestly suspect MSD is outsourcing to the same factories in mainland PRC as TRQ and the others. They switched parts manufacture to China 6-8 years ago IIRC.

Along with that shift, I'm sure they basically gave their IP up, one of the side effects of doing business over there.

So a couple of the denso coils I have have cracked and fallen apart at the bottom end I'm going to try the aftermarket but only until I can get denso replacements. That's if it even sounds ok with them installed, only because they are in front of me already

Whoa that's crazy, are the densos actually overkill. I don't see how a replacement part can be that far off spec. Really what I'm saying is they shouldn't be allowed to sell replacement parts that are this far off spec. Good post

Because consumers continue to buy it. When a company sees people are willing to buy something at the lower price, despite the shitty lower quality, they continue doing it. And when Company A sees Company B getting away with shittier quality, they shift their model to the same, and before you know it, all the companies are doing it.

Unfortunately, this is what has happened across the board. It's why the market is flooded with suspension parts that use plastic bushings instead of metal, and fail prematurely. It's why there's so many warnings out there about using aftermarket LBJs for example.

Look, it's your dollar and your time. If you're the kinda guy who likes to spend $20 on a part that you'll need to replace 4x over the next 15 years at an end cost of $80 total, versus spending $60 on the OEM part and changing once, then by all means, you do you.

But you need to be aware: Parts-store parts have become a 2-5 year stop-gap measure to bandaid the problem. That's the reality of our world today, and it's why people are always hammering: GO WITH THE OEM BRAND. Doesn't mean you need to buy it from Toyota. Toyota used specialty manufacturers all the time for their parts, like Spicer for some of the drivetrain stuff, KOYO for some of the bearings, Hitachi for the V8 MAFs, and sometimes Toyota's related branding (Denso, Aisin, Advics, Sumitomo, etc.)

Again ... you do you. I personally prefer buy-once-cry-once.

These videos pretty much show you the cost-saving measures and quality degrade of store-brand parts these days, most of it is shit:
