Its been my experience that how you drive is what gets their attention. Not your tint.

Having loud exhaust, gunning it and making too many lane changes is a magnet for attention

Window tint darkness in Louisiana The percent of visible light allowed through your car windows is called VLT: Visible Light Transmission. The percentage of light allowed through your film and glass in Louisiana is very specific and different for sedan cars and SUV cars or vans. Tint darkness for sedans: Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line or top 5 inches. Front Side windows: Must allow more than 40% of light in. Back Side windows: Must allow more than 25% of light in. Rear Window: Must allow more than 12% of light in. Tint darkness for SUV and vans: Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line or top 5 inches. Front Side windows: Must allow more than 40% of light in. Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used. Rear Window: Any darkness can be used. Window tint reflection in Louisiana Window tint can reflect incoming light and reduce glare and heat. Louisiana window tint law permits a certain window reflection when using a tint so make sure you pay attention to this as well. Tint reflection for sedans: Front Side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective. Back Side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective. Tint reflection for SUV and vans: Front Side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective. Back Side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective. Other Louisiana window tint rules and regulations: Louisiana does have several other important laws, rules and regulations pertaining to window tinting. They include the following: Side Mirrors: No restrictions. Restricted Colors: Red or amber are not permitted. Certificates: Manufacturers of film must certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using certified film. Stickers: The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film and glass on the driver’s side window. Medical Exceptions: Louisiana law does NOT allow any medical exemptions that would allow you use special tint. Penalties: $150 for first offense, $250 for second offense, $350 for subsequent offenses. Keep in mind that Louisiana tinting laws and regulations may be interpreted differently in your county or place of residence. We always recommend double-checking our information with your local DMV or law enforcement authorities.

I always just use the legal limit. Cops have better things to do than ticket me for illegal tint, but it doesn’t mean they won’t.

Did you read my reply to the post I read?
    Allow me to add:
This is a total disregard for the law and public safety.
Personally, I think this is the highest level of reckless driving.

Illegal tint is just that - Illegal.

It all depends on the officer that pulls you over. It's just like speeding, one officer might let you off with a warning, the next may right you a ticket. If you do it, you have to be willing to pay the ticket.

That's a bit far. He didn't say what level of tint he wants, if he can see okay at night what's the problem? By the rules above my tint would be considered illegal and I drive fine in California of all places. I can think of much worse things to see on the road than window tint.

I've always had 5% windows. Haven't had issues, ever. I prefer the spaceship look inside my vehicles, and the heat blocking aspects of it. You can get a doctor's note and turn it in to your DMV and they wont care at all.

The vast majority of cops won't pull you over just for that. They WILL tack it on though if you get pulled over and are being a douche.

I think it's a combination of how you drive, what you drive and stuff like loud stereos and exhaust that attract attention. Most LEO's around here would only use the tint as an add on fine. We do however, have a state patrolman that cruises north of town and has a hard on for anyone with tint. I think he'd jail his own mother for illegal tint.
I do agree with @Rex Kramer that it is a disregard for the law. I have a few friends that are officers and during a stop not being able to see in puts them on edge and rightly so.

Tint also illegal here but we also get a lot of days over 100 degrees. Almost everyone here has tinted windows. If you're in a Tahoe with 22" rims and blacked out windows, expect to be pulled over. In a nice truck with a light tint, not so much

This is 20%, illegal in his state. Wouldn't call that reckless at all.

I live in SW LA (Lake Charles area) and have 5% on backs with 15% on 2 front windows. I don't have any issues but do alot of interstate and highway at night. Not much issues most of the time. Never got a ticket in past 2 years with it. My brother in law and a couple friends work for the sherriff's dept, and said he may stop for really dark tint, but only to check vehicle. He won't ever write a ticket for tint unless you're being a d!ck. But that's the risk of running ILLEGAL tint.

Really depends on what you drive. New Tundra? Probably not getting pulled over for tint unless you are driving like a jackass.

87’ Fleetwood on 26” rims? You are going down! Do I smell marijuana coming from the vehicle sir? Please step out for me.

Maybe I watch too much livePD.....

Im in Houston and running limo all the way around, with a "legal" brow on the wind shield, which is also 5%.. I work about 2 miles from a police station and almost daily side by side with HPD in traffic. I think majority of officers have better things to do, than stop people for tint. HOWEVER, State Troopers will definitely stop you for tint, as I've seen it many times and it happened to my brother 2 times in a week driving his F250 (lol at fords)... but just drive like a reasonable person and you should be fine.

majority of the time its a "fix it" ticket

Now you're just being foolish. Illegal doesn't mean limo or double limo or anything extremely dark. The above pic of 20% all around is illegal in his state, far from reckless let alone "the highest level of reckless driving". Nobody questioned if illegal is legal.

I finally went for it on this truck and love it! Haven't had any problems whatsoever. But I think the other guys are exactly right, if you are driving normally and have no other "red flags" to warrant pulling you over then they could care less about window tint. But sure, if you are already getting pulled over it's just a few more dollars they can add to your ticket if they want to.

It seems to me like something that would be additive in the event you got pulled over. I’ve never known anyone to get pulled over specifically for having too dark a tint, but I have known someone to get ticketed for it while getting pulled over by something else.

Basically, if you ever get pulled over and are a dick to the cop, it can be one more line item on the ticket as he looks for things to ping you for as punishment.

Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, though. Seems to me that too dark of tint is one of the easier things to spot that is illegal.

I would not do illegal tint because I don't want to give the police any excuses to pull me over.

That's how it all starts. First its illegal window tint. Then its speeding. Then its robbing banks! Now you are just being an idiot. I have zero interest in any more of your B.S.

Not sure if you know anything about law but some laws are a feel good law.

Ban guns to control them better, to stop crime.

I had my front windows tinted since I was able to drive.
My back windows are tinted so if I wanted to pop a cap in a cop I would have my homey jump in the back?

Al of a sudden I can't have my windows tinted in the front.

If more people would not comply to these dumb laws that are made up overnight for feel good reasons then they would stop making them.

The mayors car has full tint but I guess some are more equal than others.

So please spare me on this bullshit "This is LAW"

I live in NY where I was a felon over night because of a law being passed.

it is window tint that most had on their cars. One person does something and all laws break lose.

How about leaving the people to discuss tint and what they will comply with and what risk they want to take.

Repeals are started by one person that gets a ticket for it and says "Fuck this"
