Does anyone have experience with a hitch connection that provides impact protection? One that I have seen, and seems to be legitimate is the Superbumper. Any information or similar products that y’all have experience with?FD1DDF3E-BEDD-48CF-822F-55A29A2E438E.jpg

No experience with one of those, but why not just use a standard receiver and ball for some protection? Is this for parking protection or?......

    Alot of them
Looks pointless. With the size of vehicles today, you will most likely get hit higher than the hitch.

I have one. The bumper on the new Tundra is basically tin foil over a light duty frame, so its using the trailer hitch assembly as your bumper. I figured with the super bumper, there are a few inches of shock absorption. It's basically a small amount of protection that comes into play when the kid texting, rear ends you after failing to see a red light.

It has a pretty strong spring compression that absorbs the shock rather than transferring the shock to the vehicle...that’s the claim. I’ve watched some independent videos on it and it truly seems to help.

I believe they have ones that rise up to level of the bumper.

Oh. I thought that was one of those 'drive by feel' units that we need as we get older and can't remember how to park properly.

I think that would be the thing that connects you when someone lightly bumps your rear end.

I have the Hitch Hammer. It is made of rubber and offer some shock absorption. It will not help much at any high speed impact, but a light tap in the rear at a red light or in a parking lot might just protect from that annoying minor bumper damage that is too small to fix but too big to ignore. I got this after I was lightly rear ended 2 times in a short time. The best thing about it is that it is not too hard on the shins like most of the others, because I know I will walk into the thing all the time.

Don't know where my Dad got this from, but it was laying around in the garage so I took it, decided to put on to protect rear, I'm on a 6" lift, not sure to leave this way or flip other way

I've been rear ended in my first gen Tundra 4 or 5 times over 17 years. Have been through, I think 3 bumpers, memory serves... and at least one straighten and rechrome. I think the first gen bumpers are more solid than the 3rd gen ones. I was wacked, some solid hits, like on the freeway several times. I had this on the truck for it's last 10 years, (and now it's on my new Tundra):

It got bent a little (it's a solid piece of metal) as the cars slid under my bumper and bent it but never had any body damage. A Suburban hit me on the freeway once, before I had the alien head, and again, just bumper damage. His front end was not so nice. My hitch made a square hole in his grill and damaged his radiator (his bumper slid under mine). He took one look and said "you have a tow hitch..." Yep. But what I see of these new 'crumple zone' bumper things is that they don't do much other than fold into the body panels and cause more damage. So I am sticking with alien head for now and hoping the good luck holds.

I'm going to necro this thread and ask if anyone has more experience with the super bumper?

    TIA.

I've worked a lot of crashes over the years but never one with a "super bumper." Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

To help avoid taking it in the rear, I added two additional 14" LED Red stop/turn/tail lightbars to my Ranchhand bumper and a short brake/reverse led strip over my lic. plate too. Basically, doubled the brake lights since the stockers are elevated above the average line of sight.

Its just a peice of flat stock on a hitch with a bunch of tape essentially with a weak pin to use the spare tire as a bump stop.

Kinda reminds me of my big hitch cargo basket, it is 40"x60", 2.5x4" rect. tube frame. About 240 lbs. Built it to haul my lawn tractor about 7 yrs ago. It nearly doubles the cargo area of my Tundra bed. Kinda like a small trailer without the headaches of those tiny cheap tires on 8 or 10" rims. I need to snap a photo next time I hitch it up.
