    Hi All,
Need some advice on this one. Found this beautiful piece of contemporary art my 5 year left for me. I can't get it out, tried vinegar, baking soda, goo gone, acetone (carefully), baking soda, detergent, magic eraser. It seems to be set in there good.

Anyone know another trick or is that a piece I can order from Toyota and replace? Passenger Rear door vinyl from 2018 Limited

    Thanks!

Is that permanent marker/sharpie? Try a dry erase marker over it and wait for it to dry then wipe it off, NOT the low odor kind. Might take a couple attempts. Unfortunately, not sure if it will still work after all the other stuff you have tried but it normally works on fresh permanent marker.

    Awww....

I was going to say what @TundraMidwesterner said. Put a dry erase marker on top. Then follow up with some Dawn dish soap.

I'm just going to repeat this again because you don't want to damage the vinyl with anything to harsh if you don't have to. Dry erase markers work over sharpies because they have non-polar solvents. When you write with a dry erase marker on a whiteboard the dye/ink is mixed with the solvent, as it drys the solvent breaks down the bonds in the dye/ink so its easy to wipe off. The smell in a dry erase marker is the solvent evaporating. You could use another non-polar solvent but a dry erase marker is usually pretty easy to come by. Again, not the low odor kind, less solvent means it doesn't work as well. The non-polar solvent will do the same thing to a sharpie.

Many years ago I used to work IT in a school district and on occasion teachers would accidentally use a sharpie on their SMART Board projector screens, which were fairly soft. Regular dry erase markers would work to fix them 95% of the time. Even after they tried to clean them off themselves with various cleaning supplies. It was part of the SMART Board factory technician training.

It is not sold separately. It is part of the main door panel. It is probably attached with plastic rivets. You might be able to get it recovered if the ink doesn't come out.

Rubbing alcohol has worked for me in the past. Strong enough to dissolve the ink but not the dye.

I think it was an ink pen, not a marker. Tried mineral spirits, no difference. I am going to take a pic, blow it up to Tshirt size and wear it anytime she makes poor choices :)

Good call about pro detailer, going to call around.

Another route - search for a junkyard door panel? Probably cheaper than hiring a detail guy.

I was going to suggest the same as @AgileTundra, rubbing alcohol is the best thing Ive ever used to clean stains off of leather and vinyl.

Tried alcohol and dry erase marker yesterday. The ink is definitely set in, albeit barely lighter but I am also loosing color on the panel. Had a fabric restore guy over too and he said if the alcohol isn't working it needs to be sealed and repainted/pigmented. Apparently overtime the ink will just bleed through the stuff he has to fix it so sealer first. $150 to color match the panel. Started scouring junk yard sites. Found 1 panel but ironically has a blemish on the gray vinyl too and it is $275. Tempted to find a gray ball point pen and just blend it in for now until kids are past their tagging stage.

Well, final outcome. Had it blended by a pro who was restoring my neighbors Camaro seats. Looks good and no longer irks me everytime I strap my kiddo in, happy pappy!
