Wanted puddle lights, but didn’t like how much they seemed to illuminate the door. I wanna see my running boards and the ground. So I added some 70” LED strips from Amazon.

Thanks to the many threads that helped me tap into the courtesy lights and the reverse lights.

The amber leds come on with my courtesy lights.
White lights come in in reverse.
I did not want the turn signal thing feature.

sorry i didn’t take many photos along the way. If you’re searching the forums and come across this project make a post and maybe I can help or at least show you the posts I copied! Haha

Hi, nice job. How / where did you tie into the wiring to make them come on for doors and backup?

I found an answer for power source. Obtain the power from the light ring. Tap into the red wire (Pin 2) and red/green wire (Pin 6) on the ignition switch. A project for when warm weather returns.

Tap into the little footwell courtesy light for the lights to come on when you unlock the vehicle. Sorry not sure about the reverse wire location in the cab.

Thanks, mostly just want to have them come on when I open the door. What W3AGLE did is pretty cool. I have the OEM Sport running boards so just wanted to add some lighting under them. If them come on when I unlock then that's a bonus. :)

im about ready to attack this too. Was gonna do puddle lights but board lights is a bit more original and makes more sense. I’m actually gonna mount some light under the rocker and shine it down onto the boards. Still deciding what light to use. Not sure I like the strip lighting for this. I want something like a mini flood light and fasten it somehow rather than stick it. My plan is to tap into the footwell light wires.
