Has anyone had any experience with one of these that will work. I see them from Orvis and Weathertech but comments indicate the plastic tabs won't go down far enough to keep them in place...

Yes....I got a few of them. There are very thin plastic pieces that slide down between the rubber and the glass. They do cover the side of the door where the pups would most likely slobber and or place their paws. And the cloth type material is tough like car hart or something. But....if you open the windows at all these things do easily come out of place.

Space between window glass and door rubber piece is not consistent. You just have to try to find a wider place for the tab can go down. Once it goes down then you can slide it to the place you want it to be. It is annoying. And yes once you roll down and up the window the tab will be going up and detaching from the door. But I am using them.

Don't know what brand the others have used but I have the K&H 27"x19" version. The tabs have a sort of expanded part that helps grab and put pressure against the insulating trim. They have four tabs to a side. Because of that design, it also has issues when you roll the window back up. It also comes with a tethered suction mount to help keep it in place but obviously is useless with the window down. The material is pretty durable as I haven't had issues with their paws and claws.

If you find a better way to cover the door, let us know.

Edit: To give you an idea of what I mean with the tabs:

    And the suction mount:

I'd love to find some good solution for this as well, but I have to be able to roll my windows down and up.

    I have a set.
Agree with the hassles of them not staying in place if you drop the window right down. I am glad so far I see no scratches on the inside of my window. I'll keep using them because it stops a lot of dirt and slime from getting into the door controls. Still decent and also agree you have to be a kind of expert at finding a place on the window to thread them in.

I believe I need to swap them around, they might be backwards?

Either you got it right or I'm doing it wrong.

As far as getting them in, the first one is the hardest but what I do is once I have the first tab at least past the rubber trim, I pull it forward and put the second one behind it and run it across the length of the trim. Rinse, wash, repeat for the rest of them. Easiest way I found to get them all in mostly flawless.

Thanks Lassie - that's consistent with what I've heard elsewhere. I have a set with the thin tabs on order and we'll see what happens. I don't plan on rolling the window up and down much, so that shouldn't be much of a problem...

I made a set for my wife’s highlander out of two layers of cordura and a sewn strip of Velcro along the top. I then ran a strip of Velcro with adhesive backing along the edge next to the window. Worked perfect for years. They were easy to remove to wash or when the dog wasn’t riding with us.

so update on this - bought the ones from Weatherbeater and they worked great. No problems and no dog scratches on my door handles. Didn't attempt putting the windows u p and down.

All you really need is some Velcro and a towel to cover the plastic. For a while I had some Velcro I would stick to the plastic and then Velcro the other side to the back of an old beach towel and let it cover the entire length.
