Is 0W20 oil too thin for 2007 5.7L Tundra?

I was just wondering if this oil weight is too thin or could cause oil consumption issues? Truck is mostly serviced at the dealer and they never mention that it consumes oil which I’m assuming is not much of a problem. I always get oil change between 4,500-5,000 miles. Does anybody else with 07-09 Tundras use 0w20 oil? The reason I ask is because I heard that 0w20 was recommended for 2010+ models, although the oil cap has that it can take 0w20 in prior models. Most say that 5W20 is better and I been using 0w20 year round over the last few years since I’ve had this truck with no issues. Just want to have a piece of mind. I was thinking of switching to 5W20 when it gets hot again, but since it’s getting colder I use 0w20.

I have used 5w-30 synthetic in my 2007 - 5.7L since new with no apparent adverse effects. (truck is always garaged and never subject to freezing temps) Serviced at the dealer since new every 4-5000 mi or 1 year, whichever come first. FWIW

In 2k miles with 5w-20 ive burned no oil. With 0w-20 ive burned half a quart in that time for years

The difference between the two is almost non-existent unless you live in an area that goes below 0*.

At operating temps they are the same. On cold start up(in extreme cold temps) the 0w should flow slightly better, til warmed up.

Lol I’m not familiar with femtograms, so I’ll just say the highest value (whatever that is)

Went from Moble1 0w-20 to this 30k miles ago (3 oil changes now) engine idles much quieter and I think smoother now
Never had oil consumption issue 150k on the clock

I ran 0w20 in my 07. Supposed to make it a little easier to start in the winter. I'm not sure it matters at -40. I never had any oil-related issues, it ran great.

Changed my oil last week. Had a bunch of Pennzoil platinum in my garage, so I thought I’d just use that up instead of throwing it away.

My engine is much noisier than it was with the Kirkland I had in there before it.

So far, Amsoil and Kirkland have been very quiet and smooth. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy and Pennzoil Platinum have been noisy. I’m going back to Kirkland. Might only go 3k on the Pennzoil, lol…

I went to Amsoil 5w30 from Amsoil 0w20 last change and the motor is noticeably more quiet and smooth.
Bought LiquiMoly Molygen 5w30 for my next change to see if it gets any quieter.

Interesting.. might have to give this a shot, I've got some Platinum to use first as well. I usually have to give my truck a splash of oil before I change it @ 5-6k miles.

Going to run OEM filter and 0w-20 till the powertrain warranty runs out. Then switching to Kirkland. Oil changes every 3k for the life of the vehicle.

Why would one change full synthetic every 3000 miles? Seems like a waste to me unless the Kirkland you're going to use is conventional that is.

It may be a waste, but I feel better about it. I’ve done 5k oil changes and the oil gave off a strong gasoline smell. I don’t mind spending the extra money.

Preventative maintenance I can afford. I can’t afford an engine rebuild.

If the truck is only driven short distances and never fully warms up, change intervals should be shorter. My truck is driven less than 3000 mile per year so it get changed every spring.

Agreed, I use Amsoil as well, not signature but more reasonably priced 5W-30. The mixture process seems like an extra unnecessary step, personally, but hey to each their own and glad your truck runs well with it. Good OCI, clean oil is what I keep hearing is key.
