Is there a TSB for the wind noise?

Dealer is fighting me on this. I get bad wind noise at highway speeds. You can push on the door/window while driving and hear it go whishy whoosh and change tone as you push. I explained to them it’s a widespread problem on new tundras. Dealer says “first I’ve heard of it” and say they can’t replicate the wind noise. I checked the trips and they drove it for less than 1/2 mile on freeway. Of course they didn’t replicate it. Arrggh!

I’ve come to realize that unless there is a formal recall or TSB for a particular problem, the dealer doesn’t do a damn thing. So is there a TSB for the wind noise issue I can refer them to?

There is no tsb I’m aware of

mine is silent but that doesn’t help you any

ask for a mechanic to ride along with you and take him out under conditions you know you can replicate

that’s what I’ve done with some of the deals on my past tundras when I get the “can’t replicate “

il like here dude , I’ll show you

Here you go, once you'll be done with this thread, consider yourself a wind noise expert.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/wind-noise-concern.98646/

Various trucks get wind noise because of different issues, but more common seemed to be rubber window in runner that needed to be replaced. Had mine replaced 3 times and it helped 90%

The crap part about dealership service departments is that they are hit and miss. I can visit my “regular” service advisor and get stuff addressed under warranty based on what I tell them is going on. I hear in the forums that some dealerships will fight you tooth and nail over clear warranty items or TSB concerns.

My dealership half-assed replaced it, which made it 10 times worse, and scratched the door in the process. Most likely they used a screwdriver instead of a plastic trim tool. They repainted that part of the door and put in a 3rd seal, but it still didn't fix it. I plan on adding my own weather stripping to it. I have already adjusted the door as far inwards as it will go.

    Wow. Sorry to hear that.

So it sounds Toyota is still in denial over this issue and there is no TSB.

has anyone discovered an aftermarket fix or hack?

Maybe a little late to the party, but Toyota has released a TSB for the wind noise. It was issued on February 7, 2025. T-SB-0020-25

My memory isn't what it used to be, but I thought they passed a federal law several years ago to make TSBs available to the public.

If that's correct, how can Toyota legally threaten someone for posting them here?

They do get put on NHTSA after a certain amount of time. Toyota can take a while on some. Anything recall related is typically up on NHTSA within 7-10 days.

And according to those familiar with the matter, a certain someone was sent a Cease & Desist for reposting screenshots of the TSBs here.

So, I did a little digging and found the federal law here:

    https://www.federalregister.gov/doc...e-on-submission-and-treatment-of-manufacturer

Unless the law has changed, it appears Toyota is required to submit TSBs to NHTSA with-in 5 days of sending them to the dealers. I'm no lawyer, but I'd argue that Toyota has no legal grounds to threaten someone for posting TSBs after that 5 day period. Here's a quote from the link above.

"Many communications about a defect or noncompliance are communications manufacturers make to their dealers, owners, or purchasers about recalls. Some examples of these communications are letters to dealers and vehicle owners informing them about a recall and service bulletins (also known as technical service bulletins or TSBs) that provide repair instructions for trained technicians performing the recall remedy. NHTSA requires manufacturers to submit a representative copy to NHTSA of recall communications “not later than 5 days after they are initially sent to manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or purchasers.” 49 CFR 573.6(c)(10). This applies to “all notices, bulletins, and other communications that relate directly to the defect or noncompliance [that is the subject of a recall] and are sent to more than one manufacturer, distributor, dealer or purchaser.” Id.

Recalls and TSBs may fall under this.
However, I recall seeing all sorts of everything posted by our friend here, including schematics and other non TSB material. Probably lots of material not necessary designed for regular people

That's why my posts specifically mentioned TSBs, since that's what was being discussed.

not that I've seen on the TSB for noise..... but it's sad my 23' Tundra is noisier then my old 97 FJ80 on 35's...... I see some dynamatt and acoustic dampening in my future.... and the hood flutter is a thing... hadn't realized how thin the metal was until I had wind on the nose and coming thru the gaping grille and flexing the hood....

Agreed. The hood flutter is very disturbing. It amazes me that modern auto engineers would design a truck with the aerodynamics of a 2-1/2 ton brick.

how bad is yours? I’m curious , anyway to take a video without wrapping it around a pole?

mine just doesn’t do much of that that I’ve noticed, I’ll try to pay more attention next time, what speed do we need to rip it at?

Have you experienced 50 mph headwinds at highway speeds? The hood flutter is ridiculously distracting to me.

Going thru a Valley in NC with wind on the nose I had gusts to 60 maybe and I pulled over to make sure the hood was in fact latched as it was flexing that much...and wasn't really impressed with the safety latch thickness and mounting... On my 200 series I had hood vents to let hot air out- almost wondering if that would help ...
