Is there science behind the orange peel?

I noticed all tundras have an orange peel all over and of course worst at the rockers over the rock guard. Did toyota purposely do this to toughen the paint or the machines were running thick during shooting? Feels like the entire truck needs to be sanded with 800grit then 1600 and coated again.

Toyota paint quality is usually pretty consistent. Not super fancy though, you’re going to have orange peel. The rougher orange peel at the rocker panels is the rock chip protective coating it’s supposed to be there.

I guess we will see how resilient it is when I go in the bush

 

If you have all terrain tires, you'll be glad the orange peel is there.
