Finally installed the JB4 in the TRD Pro, thing is awesome...running map 2 for now so still have room to increase but man, you feel the difference for sure when that boost kicks in

Engine mods like this? Oh ya. Wonder if you can just remove it and leave no evidence if there is a problem.

With all the data logging these vehicles do it is very unlikely there would be no evidence a dealer or manufacturer could find.

BMW never found any evidence left behind. Had my 335 serviced several times. Even replaced my mechanical fuel pump with no issues.

The level they look is directly correlated to the level of the issue. A new fuel pump isn’t going to get the same scrutiny that an engine replacement will get. One of those I really want my warranty for a lot more than the other

BMW does not force the dealer to tell you if your car is flagged when it is scanned during A or B service. When I last kept up with BMW (when I had a Supra), this was not unheard of on the forums. Tunes were regularly caught and JB4 did not have a perfect record either. It is just easier to look the other way on a JB4 if you are smart and you also don’t have a high value claim.

@2020Platinum Have you found published dyno curves for the before and after for the hybrid?

I am liking the power plant as is, but if I can get another year of seeing reliability out of it, I may make that leap.

Not yet, I've tried to get mine on a dyno to have proven/solid results but unfortunately the only two places that do it within a 2 hour drive radius of me both said they can't accommodate my truck because of the width/tires… Sucks, wish I was able to get mine on one to have solid numbers, especially for my viewers!...can't find any other shop in my general area that even does dyno pulls

Curious if this is better than a throttle controller. I've seen some say it's better value, others say combine them both. Any thoughts?

The tuner is going to add horsepower to the vehicle, the throttle controller is just going to give you more control of that horsepower and remove some lag. So both is probably ideal but value is probably in the tuner.

Are throttle controllers over $150 worth it? Seems like they're all basically the same thing, just different housings and aesthetics/brandings.

Very sad and disappointed that none of their tunes are available for the 2022+ Tundra SR engines :-( I know it’s software tuned down version of the same engine.

I just pulled my JB4 for my first service appointment. It was a disaster trying to get the rear plug out on my hybrid. No room and that clip didn’t want to let go. And hour later and both my hands are bleeding. What a shit show to remove.

Why remove it? Unless you're doing warranty work, it shouldn't matter if it's in there....

Fair enough. I remember taking mine out of my M3 for each service a few years ago. Bloody knuckles and all just like you. It got tiring for sure.

As mentioned above, the JB4 tuner is going to actually add horsepower which you can definitely feel… Items like the Pedal Commander and similar only adjust throttle response, they don't actually add performance gains… I'm going to be putting my Pedal Commander back in to go with my JB4, should be awesome having both!

Did you try removing that bolt I show in the video that holds the hybrid harness in place?...gave me just enough wiggle room to take that connector in and out a little easier

I also have a hybrid. I'm going to go ahead and guess this was not plug and play as I initially thought?

It's definitely plug n play, it's just that back harness is a pain to get to...if ya haven't watched my video I show exactly where it is and where that bolt is to remove on the hybrid harness to make it at least a little easier (mine is a TRD Pro/Hybrid)...let me know if I can help!

As a caveat be sure to go to settings and clear the stored codes.
So there is no evidence of overboost, if it does report such an occurrence. on my BMW I’d be sure to clear what in the BMW world we call shadow codes.

path is settings, advanced, app settings then clear saved codes.

I have yet to throw an overboost code in a year running the JB4 on map 5. I think BMS set pretty mild maps and I think Terry even said he felt there was another 30-50hp left in it.

Neither have I, I’ve only been running Map 5 for about a month. Just throwing it out there just as a CYA.

I know I had 2 codes when I disconnected the map sensor and whatever other sensor you disconnect upon initial install.

I had to go to the aforementioned menu to completely clear those codes from memory. I didn’t wanna leave Toyo an hint of me altering the truck.

So is it true that the JB4 leaves no footprint if you clear these out?...I've had several viewers ask and I can't get a definitive answer, and don't want to give anyone wrong info!

Leaving a footprint, no it does not. That doesn't mean that recorded data cannot be interpreted as there being some modification at some point. Good example would be injector duty cycle at WOT. Since the JB4 tricks the ecu into seeing lower boost than actual, any WOT data will show injector duty cycle higher than stock at oem boost levels. This is not a jb4 footprint but it's likely solid evidence that some trickery was at play. Any engineer would expect to see X% of duty cycle at WOT/Xlbs of boost. If they see a considerable higher % at "stock boost" they'll know its fake data.

They won't see any other data like if the JB4 was in/uninstalled but they don't need to. They'll just interpret the data and any significant deviation from expected values will tell them.

Anybody know the details as to why the SR cannot be “tuned”?

Just to add, anyone using JB4 on a non-hybrid? Thoughts? While I more an likely saved 6-7k off my current Platinum, I do definitely feel he initial turbo lag that is most likely not here in the hybrid. I will say I’m more often driving in sport mode in the city to alleviate this.

still happy with the stock power regardless although I feel like my 19 had a bit more torque initially off the line.
