Is this just from the new Tundra having so many issues? Toyota still doing great. Yet Chevrolet is on top of Toyota.

Pretty sure JD Power ratings are in the “not to be trusted” camp due to various pay to play and other biases.

I’m sorry but JD Power is a joke. It’s a pay to play ratings organization.

These ratings are also generated from verified owners of three years. So a 2023 report will be based off MY 2020 vehicles and "reported" issues from those verified owners. One has to wonder how many of the reported issues were actually issues at all and what exactly they were.

Well of course Lexus did...just like Toyota paid to have a lower rating than normal (but still way above industry standard).

If Toyota was rated at the top, the whine wouldn't be so loud...trust me.

Any vehicle above "industry standard" is pretty good.

It depends. On the one hand, I believe they're not terribly biased. On the other hand, their results to tend to rely on analytical results and features and the like. That in itself can skew things.

For example, back in 2011/2012, I think it was, Ford fell far lower than usual because the media system specifically was hot garbage. Nothing else really changed, but that one thing knocked them down a few pegs. As much as I'm not a fan of Ford, for a media system alone to have THAT much of an effect on the ratings of a vehicle is kind of eye opening.

Granted, the media experience in a vehicle nowadays is far more integrated and important...but given the choice between a reliable vehicle with a mediocre media system and a mediocre vehicle with a reliable/good media system, I'll take the former every time.

Plus, as much as they say they focus on features, there's subjectivity in that alone. I've had no issues at all with my media system; everyone I know @ work who owns a Ram or a Ford has had multiple issues. But because the media system in their trucks have more features, and the trucks themselves have more features, they're 'better.' *shrug*

Totally dependent on the owners and what they choose to identify as a "problem" or not.

Trust me. I’d still talk mad $hit about JD Power if Toyota was the ranked the #1 car maker of all time with verification that every vehicle was hand built by Kiichiro Toyoda himself because he had found the key to immortality. Lol.

JD Power is a bogus marketing firm backed by McGraw-Hill Financial which is now owned by S&P Global. I.E. The same company that operates the S&P Index. Who are some the biggest blue chips on that index? Car manufacturers.

I’m not some tin hat conspiracy theorist, but JD Powers is influenced by money. I trust their ratings about as far as I could throw one their heavy award trophies. I put consumer reports in a similar camp, though their money trail does not lead to bias quite as blatantly as JD does.

Precisely. JD Power is a joke, whether Toyota is top of the pile or the bottom. They can never be taken seriously. TFL Trucks is better, and I can't stand them either...

I can respect that. On the flip side, other based review sites have pretty much came to the same conclusion. Would I buy a Toyota? Hell yeah I would in a heartbeat. This isn't a bad review...

Now if I had a Ford...might be a little more concerned. Right now recall warranty work is 4-6 months out at Ford. Let that sink in...

I would also have to see what the "complaints" are about. This is a big assumption on my part with no research, but I would think the complaints are no different that on here (usually small insignificant problems) vs big issues.

I picked up an issue of consumer reports recently while standing in line at a CVS.....they had the '22 Tundras as not rated terribly high on build quality - and my '23 had not come in yet. I still bought it anyway! LOL

Yeah, I personally have never owned a Buick. But I’ve known a lot of people that have. And just about everyone one of them love them some Buick. Durable and very little if any issues for the life of the vehicles.

Most people I know of that have Buicks put about 2K miles on their cars per year - and average about 3 minutes before they hit 60 mph. ;-)

Buick is definitely one of those brands that is suffering from their customers dying off. They don’t have the benefit of being a “luxury” brand like Lincoln and Cadillac so they’re appeal to the middle class is starting to narrow dramatically.

My father in law, who is a retired engineer for GM, used to talk at length about how surprised he was that GM killed off Pontiac instead of Buick. Buick, at the time, had fewer quality issues but Pontiac was making measurable in roads with a much younger demographic. Buick folks are loyal, but I’m not sure how much longer they’re going to be around. :notsure:

What you’re saying is these ratings have the potential of getting worse for Toyota. 2020-2021 Tundra’s did not have that many issues.

My dad was upset because back in the day (less so when they actually killed it off) Pontiac used to be GM's racing division.

Yes. Volume wise relative to the fleet the Tundra is pretty low.
