As much as I love my 2017 TRD pro and have it set up exactly the way I want I'm finding it very difficult to resist the temptation to buy one of those new Jeep wagoneers....

Mainly it's due to its three row capabilities having grandkids and still wanting to have some off-road capability and a 10,000 pound tow capacity.

Even though I'll likely wait till the second model year and finding dealers who are ready to come down on the price, Somebody talked me off the cliff... Please.. :)

Like most Jeep products, they look great on paper and perform best sitting in a garage!

I was a jeep guy long before I starting buying Toyotas. I would not purchase a first year model Jeep of a brand new model and design. There are going to be kinks to work out for sure and Jeep/RAM put new features and models out with less testing than Toyota.

Ive owned CJs, Yj, Tj, cherokees, Commander. The good- they are capable vehicles, especially with even minor mods/additions. They are not great for towing, maybe the big new model will be better. Each model will have weak spots so research of issues before you buy is important. Overall I had some good Jeeps but driveline components are often just enough for the power and vehicle- components used in driveline and steering should have been more HD, as I said it seems like they used components just good enough. Add in some heavier use like towing, adding bigger tires, etc and there could be some issues with things like Cvs, driveshafts, ujoints and transmissions can be hit or miss....I always purchased manuals vs automatic if available but did not have any auto trans issues with my vehicles. Every one I ever owned got miserable MPG. I owned older models, less tech, and have heard of some issues with some of the new tech, big screen HU, etc.

You have to be proactive on maintenance. As they get some miles and age, they do not fare as well as your toyota. I highly suggest getting the best extended warranty you can. But Jeep can also be a pain regarding what is covered. Stuck in a mudhole and something breaks- dont expect them to warranty it. I recall a video of a girl running a new wrangler in about a six inch deep mudpuddle, spraying water and muck everywhere. Caused some issues and the repairs were not covered.

So you know they are not as reliable as what you drive now. But likely on par to average. Can be amazing capable for off road use, camping. Great aftermarket support for mods and such. Lots of forums and good info as people are into them- kind of like our Tundra family here. If the Gladiator was a bit more heavy duty and could match towing of a Tundra, I may be in one now. Bottom line, Jeeps can be super cool and a great fit if you use them in the right ways. Plan on the extended warranty. Be anal about maintenance and care for it and a jeep can be good to you right back.

Yeah that's what I read over the years but I put 10 years and 200,000 miles on my 1985 cherokee, then 12 years and 170,000 miles on my 1996 Grand Cherokee, and my 2006 Commander which is now driven by my daughter has 175,000 MI all with very minimal and normal maintenance and repair issues.

So other than wanting to wait till the second model year for first year shakedown issues, I'm not really worried about the reliability part.

My uncle had one of those in red 30 years ago. Even now I think thats a cool vehicle.

Wouldn't buy a new one though.

Edit- $85k for the new one? F that!

I’ve got a 2015 Jeep GC Limited 4x4 with 130k trouble free miles and a 2015 Jeep Cherokee with 133k miles that I replaced a battery and a cam follower. No other issues. The 2015 JGC is a leftover Daimler/Chrysler product built on the old ML platform. The 2015 Jeep Cherokee is built on the FCA platform for the 500 I believe. Both Pentastar V6’s.

I believe that's exactly what it's competing against. Slightly bigger than the Yukon but smaller than the Suburban but a higher towing capacity.

I've got a little over 180k on my 3.6 2011 Durango with no repairs other than maintenance basically. Believe it or not still has the original AGM battery.

Saw one of these new beasts recently and I loved the way it looks…if I needed a full size SUV with a third row I would definitely be looking at one of these.

could be, but then I’ve never had a vehicle that had major problems with it. No engine or trans or major system failures. Of course, I do all of my own maintenance also…. :monocle:

I have a theory about that. Most people who think their cars always need some repair are people who take their cars to mechanics for maintenance. A mechanic will always find add ons.

They start at like $75K....crazy. I don't see the draw to them unless you own a gas station. TONS of screens in them though. Only jeep I would own is a straight 6cyl wrangler.

I was a lot attendant at the local Jeep dealership back in the day and remember the Grand Wagoneer being a beast of a beast. Super plush and drove like a Cadillac. It was the classic family truckster yet at the age of 17 I wanted one so bad.

As much as everybody b****** about the high price, the Wagoneer at least is on par with the other full size three row SUVs.

The Grand Wagoneer is in a class into itself more like the upper levels of the Escalade or the Lincoln

I think we’re going to see the 2023 Toyota Sequoia in fall of 2022. So you might be served to hold fast and see what Toyota offers. Get the size you’re after, and probably the towing ability.

I do have to point out towing 10K with a 1/2 ton truck on the regular you should probably look at a 3/4 ton. So doing it with an SUV is similarly sketchy.

The 6 figure price tag isn't enough of a deterrent? Even the Suburban and Expedition Max aren't there yet.

They are really nice . They’re built on the Ram DT frame but they’ll have the brand new UConnect 5 in them . They also come with the 6.4L Hemi so the MPG will be poor at best .

I had that same motor in my 2014 Jeep SRT, and was surprised at how good the mpg was given it was 480HP/TQ, full time AWD, and 2.5 tons. Lol, it got better mpg than the wife’s current 4R.

Over 70K totally trouble free miles, and could get 20mpg on the highway.

Best vehicle I ever owned, and my favorite I’ve ever owned. Kick myself for not getting another one, and giving the wife my truck.

The Wagoneer is competitive with the Suburban and Expedition and priced similarly 60-80K. The Grand Wagoneer is in Escalade and Navigator territory and they easily go into that range.

My bad. Part of the reason I drive a Tundra instead of a Sequoia is I didn't think it made sense to spend $20k more on a vehicle with lower payload and towing and worse fuel economy.

The fever has passed.... Nice truck, but too nice. There's a reason I don't drive an Escalade or Navigator... If they come out with a more plain Jane and lower posh, it may be on my list, but I don't need or want a luxobarge.....
