I’m coming back today from a week away outside the country (Canada) and it’s been the coldest temperature ever like -40c/-45c for a week and of course truck wasn’t plugged in. Have u ever jumpstart a Toyota tundra hybrid before I’m panicking at the airport right cause I can’t find any infos about that. Is there a special procedure as the battery is under back seat .

I don't have a Hybrid but my owners manual has information on how to jump start.

    LOL.

The truck will probably still start, might be slow to crank though.

I was thinking adding the process for people that have lost or otherwise don’t have access to the owners manual for whatever reason and do a Search ending up on this thread.

It's a little more complicated on a hybrid, but not too bad.

Sorry for the late reply on this
Finally got home yesterday in northern Alberta after a week under the punta cana sun ☀️ . everything was frozen or broken lol. Had issues with natural gas furnace wasn’t heating more than 18c thanks to Google I found problem and managed to by pass the faulty limit switch. Got a new one today and it’s warm and comfy in the house again ! Let’s get back to the infamous tundra hybrid. I must say it was an easy fix to jumpstart it. I followed instructions mentioned above except removing engine cover at -45c was a waste of time anywhere away from fuse block would have worked like rad bracket lol. I used a booster pack and it worked no problem. I got engine light but it ended up gone after running truck for a hour and restarting it.

So when you tried to start it did it crank and if it did, just not fast enough to start?

    Didn’t crank at all
Brake pedal frozen and push button would barely move
Wife’s jeep wouldn’t shift in reverse after I jumpstarted it at ran it for 45min lol

on the non HV, its page 537.

the attached pic is for NON HV tundra's

side note is that it only talks about jump starts and not about just charging the battery by itself or using a trickle charger. i am guessing using the actual battery terminals for charging/trickle is fine?

since the non HV is using this special connection point for the negative terminal for jump starts under the engine cover, i will have to look for it once it warms up this spring/summer to have an idea where it is, for future reference.

Anywhere away from battery or away from moving part is good for ground (-) don’t waste time taking engine cover off.

from what i remember on the new gen tundra, pretty much every square inch under the hood is now painted. so you would have to scrap paint off to get bare metal to get anyplace to be a ground point.

hence the specific metal ground point they now provide under the cover.

so what would happen if you just connected to the neg terminal instead of other ground point ?

kinda seems to be a PITA to have to remove the engine cover FFS, but good to know. I'll have to take a look at things next time Im in the garage. I have a NOCO jump starter in the truck just in case and the cable isnt long enough to get to that neg point under the cover

They want you to connect ground elsewhere to avoid sparks. I personally wouldn't worry too much about it with the NOCO though since you can connect it to the battery then turn it on.

hmm i thought that was the norm for connecting a charger/trickle, connect the cables first then plug it in :)

That's the problem with to many people these days. They don't know what the "norm" is (AKA common sense). :)

Hello Fellow Tundra owners. I’m new to Toyota, new to this site, and new to Hybrid vehicle. I apologize if this was covered somewhere and I just can’t find it.

I bought a 2024 Toyota Tundra Limited Hybrid

Regarding Jumping a Hybrid with battery jumper pack. The 12volt battery is in the back seat area, all good there to and start as per a normal boost. But my concern is when I begin to drive and the engine shuts off in “electric mode” and then needs to be re-started is it using the 12-volt starter battery or something in the hybrid system?

My last truck was an F150 with Auto-start.(not Hybrid) and when I jumped it, I would have to turn the auto-start off so that the motor stays running and charges the battery back up. If not (depending on the length of drive time) there was not enough power back in the battery for starting , or even really slow starting. Just wonder about this with the Tundra, before I ever need it or in this situation basically.

Anybody deal with this, or am I putting to much thinking into a non-issue with the current Hybrid technology?
    Thanks.
