Hi! I just purchased a 2006 Tundra 191,000. When driving home it seems to have an issue on the front passenger side. If you hit a bump on the right front wheel it is trying to pull the truck to the right as it bounces back up. It looks like there has been new stuff put on, but I have no clue what would be causing this. Any clues? Any info would be helpful. It was as is. Thank you

could be something as simple as needing alignment. If alignment is off it can cause bump steer. But since you said there are many new parts on the truck, something could be installed incorrectly or there could be other worn parts up front somewhere. If you have a front sway bar, check its condition, especially the end links. One could be broken. Look for any bad bushing, leaking shocks up front.

Drive it around some, hit some bumps, listen for any odd noises. If no noises and the truck is otherwise driving and tracking well, other than the bump steer, I would get the front end alignment done and see if that resolves your issue.

Welcome from SoCal. Looks like you got new coilovers and links. You're not going to like this suggestion, but you should probably take it to a mechanic and ask for a full inspection. 1st gens have a frame rust recall, and I'm seeing evidence of some pretty serious corrosion. It'd probably be worth your while to get a full lookover.

Good advice above. in the first pic, that cv shaft looks pretty degraded, rust hit it pretty hard, but I dont think it would cause bump steer. I am going to stick with my first thought- they recently replaced coilovers, so my guess is that they never had the truck aligned after....and that is required.

Take it to a trusted shop, have them give it a look over to see if anything else needs immediate attention and do a front end alignment.

Thank you for the info. I guess I will start with Toyota to check it out. I bought it at a used car place. I did get a 2yr warranty, but I am not seeing "frame" being covered. I will update as soon as I get it aligned.

That's not a stock bolt on the rt side lower shock mount. I bet it's undersized and has slop. Could be photo perspective, but further evidence is how low the shock end appears to sit in relation to the mount.

If those are the Monroe shocks, they wear out very quickly. My truck did the same thing because one of them wouldn't extend all the way.

You might need to replace the rack and pinion bushings. I replaced mine when I had an ‘06 Tundra. I used energy suspension poly bushings instead of oem. Check to see how yours look (i.e. torn/cracking). Could also be a lower ball joint if not these bushings.

here’s a helpful vid link I found on the bushings being replaced; I didn’t mess with my tie rods as they were fine:

Pics were after I replaced (they’re the red poly bushings when looking at the photos)

***You are the winner*** The Toe and cam are not at the correct settings. Getting new tires will help too.

Gotcha! I see the flat part on one of the bolts. I was thinking pic 4 had too long of screws too.

Fortunately, caught in time that I didn’t need to replace the actual rack and pinion, just the bushings. I had 1 or two bushings that were pretty worn/split, so just replaced all 3 with the poly bushing kit. Ran perfectly afterwards.
