Just replaced battery, truck turns over but won’t start.

I just bought a DCLB mid sept with 30k miles on it. Parked it for 6 weeks and came back to a dead battery. Replaced battery, and now it turns over, but won’t start. Any idea what it could be? I called the dealer and they told me to check fuses. If they are good, they say to jump the starter relay. It the starter is working, why would I jump the relay? Sadly the dealer is 2 hours away in anchorage. Thanks so much for the help.

 

Rodent damage to any wiring? How about ground wires?

Probably something easy to check that I would do is see if it’ll start on starting fluid. If it will, you know, it’s a fuel problem.

 

Thanks! I can’t hear a fuel pump when key turns on. It’s weird though, I hear a humming coming from the top of the motor. I’ve been disconnecting the battery so it stops. I was thinking it was some kind of security system thing. I’ll see if I can get it to start on added gas. We are in the middle of a fairly large snow/rain cycle. Not ideal for working on it. I REALLY appreciate the help.

 

It's funny I had a similar problem, I disconnected my battery because I was working on the dash. I put everything together and didn't turn it on. Next morning I went to use the remote start and nothing. I then proceed to turn it on manually and nothing. It just cranked and cranked, kept trying for a while and eventually it turned on. Haven't had the issue again.

after reconnecting the battery, leave the key in ignition for a minute before starting… if smart key, hold fob to the start push button

 

Thanks. I’ll try that. Weather has shut down diagnostics. I’m probably too pissed right now to be very effective anyway. Still have my old truck, and it has good snow tires, while the SR5 has summers. I’ll try again tomorrow. Really appreciate all the help.

 

To add, I believe the ignition need to be in the “on” position while it interrogates the key transponder

 

Defective battery? They do sit on a shelf for a while

 

I topped it off before I put it in the truck. It’s a fancy one.

 

Fuel pump only runs when cranking or if the engine is running, doesn’t come on with key just in on position. The noise you hear on the top of the motor area could be the SAIS.

I just replaced mine a week ago and first try fired up like normal then the motor died! Never done that before, not once! Turned over and ran the next time and every time since but maybe some weird thing with the Tundra "brain"?

 

I would agree with it being a fancy one.

If the truck is not reading the security chip in the key it will crank but not start. You can tell if its ready it by the flashing red lock

 

Got the truck back, and it’s running great. They “flashed” the computer. I don’t understand, but am happy with the results! Mounted studs today, does great in the snow!
