2018 5.7 does anyone use the K N drop in air filter? If so do you like it? Do you feel a difference? Is it a waiste of money? Good or bad.

If you could get more power out of an engine by putting a different air filter in, then I'm pretty sure Toyota engineers would have done so. Basically if you get any performance gains it is because the air filter is flowing more air by not filtering it as well. Thus reducing engine life.

    IMHO.

A K&N will not increase power. It will increase noise, let more fine dust through, and possibly muck up sensors.

I have reusable filters in all of my vehicles. The idea of paying $60 and reusing one for the years of ownership beats paying $20 every 6 months or so to me. There is a catch. If your goal is saving money long term it's a good idea, if your goal is getting more power you'll be disappointed.

Paper filters are undeniably better at filtering than any reusable filter I have seen. That said not all reusable filters are created equal. If you run a reusable filter and plan on an off road trip, I would suggest swapping in a paper filter for that trip and swap back after. Avoid oiled filters, dry filters work better.

In my experience the K&N filters are not great for filtering air. If you hole one up to the sun you'll see the fabric has a lot of void. No amount of oil will help that. I won't get into the great oily maf debate, but through the years of using K&N I never had a problem with the maf.

AEM, a sister company of K&N, makes great dry filters, so far that is my favorite. They are designed just like a K&N but with good media.

I have tried an AFE pro dry filter as well. It works pretty well but fabric is not as closely woven as the AEM. Overall build quality is good on these.

I have tried the Airraid dry filter, the filter media is good but overall build and fitment is sloppy, plus the rubber surround leaves less surface area than a paper filter.

You guys made up my mind. I would rather have a better filtering filter than a filter that lets more particles flow thru. I'm not racing I want my tundra to last as long as possible . I don't abuse it and take care of it . Like you said I'm sure the Toyota techs are better qualified than me . But ( there is alway a but) don't the TRDs come with a k n filter? Or something like that?
Someone said I should get a TRD pro exhaust and cold air intake, what do you know about that. Plus I think keeping her all original should be better.

I purchased the TRD PRO filter which is just like the K&N filter…used it for a few months and only thing I noticed was a whistling noise. Threw it in the trash and run the paper OEM. IMO don’t waste your money.

I used to on a 13 GMC Sierra 1500. It caused my mass airflow sensor to clog due to the oil in the filter. Since then I have only used Wix.

OEM is already a CAI. Don't waste your money on a replacement CAI.
