Going on a trip w a couple kayaks. I couldnt stomach the cost of racks. So made this. Really only works w my DC and shorter Kayaks, but may give some ideas. The frame is wider than the tailgate and wheel wells so cant slide out. And I can strap down by the bed loops at the bottom and also the rail on the kayak side. Anyways it simplly gave me a way to stand the yaks on their sides and free up some bed space. I usually just toss them in the back w the gate up but I need more space for luggage etc.

I'll get a cargo net or soft luggage carrier for the open space.

I did like the yakima bedrock quite a bit but by the time I get the rails and a basket it was pushing $700+... this will work for my needs... $25 in studs and I had deck screws and paint...

At my own risk of course and yours too... fine print legal disclaimer. For inspiration only... Also dont use hair dryer in bathtub or while sleeping...

Great idea, I used a homemade rack for many years with my Tacoma but once I stepped up to a Tundra my rack was to small and wouldn't fit! I purchased a ladder rack off Amazon for like $120ish I believe and it is what I use to haul my kayaks on in the bed of my truck. Much cheaper then the other rack systems, but it serves it's purpose and actually works very well.
