Is it worth it to trade my 18 Limited for a new Tundra? My Limited only has 26,000 miles and I bought new. It's basically a creampuff. The only thing I don't like is the stereo sound and the infotainment screen. The ride could be a little better, but not a big deal. I love that it's reliable! Not sure I can stomach taking a car in for repairs even if they are under warranty. Once they start working on your vehicle you start getting scratches, rattles and a checkered Carfax. Let me know what you think.

I would keep it and make some upgrades. At 26k miles it is barely broken in.

Who doesn't love a new truck? Trade that beast in, probably get more than you paid for it. I can tell you though, I've had to take the 23 back to the dealership A LOT! between the provided maintenance services, recalls, and misc issues...window trim, radio knob, bumper, tailgate paint....and yeah, they scratch it, leave grease prints, and mess something up every damn time. Still love the truck, but that part has been annoying

Id keep it, original lower, low miles so almost new for a Tundra. Stereo can be addressed easily as well as suspension and ride if you choose. You probably are close if not paid off for that vehicle. If you get a good trade or sell for yours, you are still looking at 20-40k out of pocket for a new tundra depending on trim.

Costs for the new trucks are substantial and if you have looked around the website you should already be aware of the new gen quality, pros/cons, true MPG, capability. The new trucks are better in many ways but performance and MPG is not light years ahead of the 2.5 gen.

I don't see the value in spending that much more considering the condition, low miles and proven reliability of the truck you already have.

I've had the same thoughts with my 2015 LTD Crew Max I've owned since brand new. But when I think about cost of new Tundra and issues I read about I say why. These Gen 2.5 Tundra's are some of the best vehicles ever manufactured. Plus I think my MPG with the 5.7 may be better than new. Just averaged 17.5 driving from FL to GA mountains. Most of the YouTube videos I see the newer ones are not as good as that. I also get it about the CARFAX issues. I had one dealer try to low ball me saying I had too many CARFAX items on my record. I said that's all maintenance at the dealer since day 1. I countered would you rather have one that never shows any maintenance/upkeep or mine that's been well maintained.

I’ve got a 2019 limited CM TRD. I would not trade yet. I do like the new ones, just not convinced it’s fully baked. And I am not that attached to my 2019, just my practical side saying not yet. My 2000 on the other hand will have to be pried from my cold dead hands.

Looks like you don’t drive it that much. If you need a status symbol, a decoration for your driveway, or you want everyone to know your bank account or how much in debt you are, then go buy a new truck.

Flip side of the coin, life is short. Do what makes you happy if you can afford it. It’s just a truck.

Do what makes you happy, just make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. Rampant consumerism destroys a lot of wealth in this country for no real gain aside from a fleeting hit of dopamine from a new “thing” that will feel old in a few short years.

I tell my wife that all the time about getting a new car. Her current one has been paid off for years and is in great shape and has all the things. She wants a new one. I told her that new one will be her used car in about 6 months. Just the car she’s driving, nothing amazing.

If the only problem you have is the radio there are tons of options to fix that. The 3rd gen isn't necessarily unreliable, but it doesn't have the established history that your truck does. If you're being genuine in your complaints about the current truck, then you'd be insane to trade/sell it for something so readily addressed.

Would love to upgrade the stereo but I would lose my mind if it rattled after they were done.

Sounds like you’re trying to talk yourself into getting the new truck; go for it. Thousands of us have upgraded our stereos with no problems rattling and there are easy ways to fix that with felt tape. The suspension / ride quality is also an easy fix.

It really comes down to it’s your money. Your truck is literally brand new. If you have the disposable income and that’s what floats your boat follow your heart.

For me, I would put 4-5k into all the upgrades I wanted on a flawless truck vs trading it in and spending tens of thousands of dollars to get a newer version.

Do the mods yourself and keep the truck. My 2020 is now at 15,000 miles but my 2008 hit the break-in at 200,000.

I got my '19 (1 lease turn-in CPO w/20K miles) specifically because I wanted the V8, the tried and true reliability I've always gotten from my Toyotas, and I personally don't love the new body style.

The stereo sucks, which is why I'm about to put in one of the big ass Kenwood head units. Problem solved.

Of course, get a new one if that's what you really want. (And by that I mean, don't do it!)

His truck is like new, virtually new, figuratively new, basically new, for all intents and purposes new. But it is not literally new. Please stop using that word like my teenage daughter. ;)

The stereo and ride have got to be two of the weakest reasons to trade in a vehicle. But sometimes people look for whatever reason is convenient to convince themselves.

keep it. Just don't let Car Toys or any other street vendor to the stereo upgrade. There are quality installers if you look for them and check their store out to see if it passes the smell test. As for the suspension - There are many reliable installers - check your local forum page and see where others have gone - If you can't find them on the Tundra site check the Tacoma World site. Is your current truck paid off? If so, keep it. Nothing a new truck can offer is better than not having a monthly payment.
