My Camry XLE has keyless entry when you touch either of the front door handles the car unlocks without having to touch the key fob. Can this be installed on our Tundras? I dont care about the push button start, just the keyless entry part. Anyone done this?

My wife's camera has it also. Wish Toyota would make it an option on all their vehicles. Would be #1 best MOD ever if it was possible.

Toyota is funny with stuff like that. I had a 38K Tacoma with push start and touch entry but no power seats or home link. Got a lower level Tundra now with homelink , power drivers seat but no touch entry. They are hard to figure out on the "why" they do the things they do.

My wife’s ‘12 highlander has that. Honestly my favorite thing when I’m driving her car. So cool just to grab the door and it unlocks. I’m sure its tied into the push button start where the car senses that the remote is close by.

I have looked into this extesivelex and yes, it's tied into the push to start . I have also looked into the aftermarket push to start setups.. and they are sh*t. So for there is nothing out there that works like the factory setups. IMO it's not worth the headache of getting the aftermarket stuff .

I have to think its possible, just how expensive will it be
I was hoping it wasnt tied into the push button but had a pretty strong feeling it did. Would love it if it was just a chip you put in your fob and door handles but i guess not. And youre right about the aftermarket push start setups, they suck.

In my opinion, the "Why" is Toyota's beancounters, who delete features one right after the other, year to year, while ignoring or hoping their customers are too ignorant to notice what their other models have as equipment. They're certainly willing to have plenty of things like $12 Driver's Side Grab Handles available to sell for $50 to their loyal customers though :rolleyes:

Completely agree. Theyre masters at creating brand loyalty making bullet-proof vehicles but, yet, have done so with no brand uniformity in their car features. Man we're stupid

One bucket list mod purchase is the driver side Grab Handle. Went with my brother to complete his 1794 purchase at an east coast dealership, who offered to order and install, yet dealership back home refused for "legal" concern or reasons. OEM parts and assembly right so would this void or present warranty issues? I know its simple install, but anyone care to chime in or explain the hesitance?

Toyota doesn't want to cause harm to it's customers with all those dangerous features. That driver's side grab handle is probably responsible for countless lost lives. If the truth be known, I'm sure the lights in door bottoms, amber flashers/signals, dual zone ac/heat, illuminated ignition ring, sliding console, under-seat storage and probably a couple more STANDARD features were all deleted for "Safety Reasons" too! Just goes to show ya', the Big Three aren't as concerned for our well-being, like our Big Brother Toyota is! :thumbsup:o_O

Thanks. That system isnt even for sale anymore. The answered questions section said it was a pos made in China product. I really dont want the push button start but its like coastaldad and duneflyer said, theyre tied together. This thread was started just before i posted this thread and hes using a company located in Kansas or Missouri https://www.tundras.com/threads/push-button-start.20273/

Sorry...I didn't check the links. Its a vid I had saved some time back. I've considered attempting one of the push-button/ remote entry systems. Just not at the top of my mods list.

LOL - I did find it a tad funny my old 2007 Lexus IS350 had touch handles/push-start, and my 8 year newer Tundra didn’t :D
My new Lexus GS350 has it too. I crack up because I drive both equally, and I always grab the Tundra handle out of habit thinking it will unlock when I grab it (obviously it doesn’t).
I look like an idiot every now and then when my brain is on overload and all of the sudden my Tundra handle snaps back and my door is still locked. :D

I highly doubt it could easily be integrated into the Tundra.
I wouldn’t piss and moan if they introduced it into the newer models though!
Although not a priority for a truck (for me).

Ps - just touching the handle when you exit the vehicle (to lock it) is pretty nice too. Never have to put your hands in your pocket to pull out your fob.
Lexus also has the “key card” where you don’t even need a big key or a fob!
It’s just a credit card (size of 3 cards) in your wallet that replicates the FOB and has a key inside. The door handle/push start recognizes the credit card.
Pretty badass. Them MoFo’s have the technology!

I'm not completely sure on this, but I believe the typical system may use 3 - 4 antennas to triangulate on the smart key (fob) location. I believe the typical manufacturer setup mightI believe Tesla does this but with bluetooth antennas instead of the typical RF frequency that most car fobs use. So, the Teslas can locate your phone in relation to the car. I've seen videos where you can walk up to a Tesla and it opens the doors using your phone to know where you are.

Again, this could be misinformation, but I've thought about setting this up (with bluetooth). Those were the conclusions I came to, I could be 100% wrong. Anyway, I found it's difficult to calibrate the antennas and figure out everything with all the different environmental variables. I decided it would be too time consuming and went with a simpler solution.

Instead, I decided to have a lock / unlock touch screen button via an app on the phone. This way I can ditch the key and just use my phone. It's also significantly easier to setup requiring only 1 antenna. However, there is no proximity / automatic opening when you touch the door handle.

My Audi and Jeep JLU has push button start, could care less for it. I never sprained my wrist or broke a nail sticking a key in and turning it. But I have had to change battery on a dead key fob because new car wouldn’t start.

Im always reaching for the handle on the Tundra too. That card is certainly sweet! Come on Toyota, STEP IT UP (but only make it an option so everybody is happy!)
