Recently purchased 2005 tundra SR5 double cab. I didn’t realize it during the test drive but once I begin to drive it, it would not shift into fifth gear. I had codes for downstream oxygen sensors both sides as well as knock sensor codes. I Check the transmission fluid and replaced 4 L of it and made sure it was at the proper level and then attempted to replace the knock sensors and found that the wire was chewed through with a mouse. Replacing the knock sentence did not clear the code. I am a novice mechanic and will try anything that’s not above my pay grade. anybody have any thoughts?

Hello friend. Knock sensor code sufferer here (mine's P0328 on bank 1/driver voltage high, yours is P0333 on bank2/passenger high input).

I can tell you: As long as the check engine light is lit for this code, the truck will remain in limp mode, eat gas, and will run degraded, not be able to operate in full range of gears/acceleration/speed.

You can clear the code to get driving normal again, but these P032x and P033x codes are two-trip cycle codes, so they will return every other time you start the truck. I carry an OBDII wireless dongle in the truck to clear the code when mine pops (it's super intermittent, I think I just have a bad connection).

You said rodents were nesting under the intake, which is typical if you park outdoors, and you said they chewed up the wiring. The sensors were probably still good, but the wiring and/or connectors weren't. I want to say the knock sensor wiring is shielded, and we know from member experience, it's sensitive to how it's terminated in the VVTi (2005-2006) trucks.

Without seeing how you repaired the wiring, or hearing how you repaired it after the mice chewed it, I can't say the cause. If you installed aftermarket knock sensors to fix the problem, or if you sourced replacement knock sensors on fleaBay/scAmazon/Temu, the sensor you installed may be causing the code. For one, there are more counterfeits on those three sites than you can shake a stick at (regardless who is fulfilling the order, especially Amazon's warehouses are flooded with knockoffs). Additionally, a lot of aftermarket parts fail to meet or exceed Toyota's tolerances.

If you didn't tape everything up with rodent tape (Honda sells it), unless you change your parking situation to park somewhere without rodents, you may be under the intake again repairing this in the future.

Curious to hear more. It's easy enough to test the sensors - I can share a video showing how - but you need to have the intake off to do that.

Tell us some more about how you repaired the wiring. If you have pics, that would be super handy.

If you did not clear the code, I suggest what @Shifty alluded to, clear the code by disconnecting the battery for about 30 min. Accomplish some drive cycles, see if reports same code or changes.
