I've known for a while that I had a bad strut on the right side. I've owned an 07 and 14 tundra for the last 12 years combined. One thing I know for certain is the struts and shocks on the Tundra were never really made for heavy tires at all. The PRO being the exception. The rear usually goes fast. I've already replaced them once on my 14.

This past weekend I replaced the front struts with the KYB monomax. I really didn't care about raising the front end and I've never really liked the Bilstein ride.

Man.... what a world of difference. I like them so much, I ordered the rear shocks even though I replaced them about a year ago. Should get them by the end of the week.

Got to say, its the best ride in a Tundra I've had. I'm running 33 x 11.5 20 Es. Falken AT3.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Put the rears on yesterday. Just what I hoped for. Great shocks made in Japan. Ride great!

Awesome to hear that you’ve got good ride quality on those.
I think Bilstein has everyone hypnotized. They’re great for certain applications but, the 5100’s are so universal I can’t imagine they ride very good.

Struts are shock absorbers but are generally made to fit within steering system components of a suspension. While shocks is generally used to describe a component that does not affect steering. Front struts. Rear shocks.

Believe whatever you want to believe. Enjoy. I think I'll stick with what the manufacturer calls them.

Sure they are and 1aauto is the source for all real truth.

I simply called them what the maker calls them.

Either way. They're better than any Bilstein I've ever had. That is just my opinion. Do as you like and call them shocks for all I care. Enjoy

$25 on 4 is all you get. I didnt mention it because you have to cut out the labels on the boxes and etc to earn the rebate. Not worth the aggrevation to me for $25. The larger rebate is for the complete assemblies. I wouldnt ever recommend replacing the Tundra springs.

OK. That was just one source, there are multiple. But it doesn’t matter I’m glad you’re happy with your shocks with coil overs.

The original poster is correct. They are struts. At least that is what the manufacturer, Toyota, calls them. This came right out of the Toyota parts book (Google it and find it yourself):

FRONT SUSPENSION/STRUTS & COMPONENTS FOR 2018 TOYOTA TUNDRA SELECT STRUTS & COMPONENTS PART
    2018 TOYOTA TUNDRA

    https://parts.olathetoyota.com/auto...ont-suspension-cat/struts-and-components-scat

Some folks are not as smart as they think they are. The original poster makes a post about something useful and folks on here feel the need to be petty and nitpick meaningless things about his post.

I am just about to replace mine. Did you have the Bilstein 5100 before and how does the ride compare? Thanks for sharing!
