Looking to upgrade tire sizes on my 23 Limited. I wanna replace the spare tire with the same size that I will be upgrading too. What is the largest tire size the spare tire well will facilitate? Thanks in advance.

I know for a fact a 35 will fit in the location.

Did you have to lower the tire pressure?

A 35” tire will fit but I think there are considerations for the spare wheel size to be aware of.

I watched a video that stated that the spare wheel is 18x7.5” wide and should not have a 35x12.5 tire on it as the minimum spec for wheel width is 8” on that tire size. It was recommended to go 295/70r18 on the spare max.

This was for my SR5 Off-Road though which comes with 18” OEM wheels. I do not know if the Platinum with 20” OEM wheels has the same spare.

I'm not sure how to interpret this. I'm planning to throw it up there and see what happens.

Im sitting on the 20" 's w/265's from factory and considering this as well, had inquired at the Dealership and got a negative. Current spare is the OEM original 18.
Don't feel like throwing 900 at another wheel/rim that has to be stowed in the bed.
Hopefully someone figures it out soon.

Does that apply to the 3rd gens? That's what OP has.

It sounds like a 34.5" diameter tire will work but the width of a 35x12.5 is far from ideal on a 7.5" width rim. Baja Boss AT 295/70r18 is at 34.5" but works for wheels in the 7-10" range. Should be a viable option but expensive and heavy for a spare.

    Lots of stuff!
I just got my 5th tire and wheel and have yet to put under the truck. I believe that the 295/60/r20 is ~34" diameter. I feel confident that it will fit in place of the spare based on what others have experienced.

I really wanted to make sure that I had the same size spare to prevent any stress on the differentials.

    FYI:
285/60/20 Cooper AT3 XLT on a OEM Platinum rim fits just fine under the truck, in place of OEM spare.
    (just mounted mine)

Weirdly enough - anyone else notice how the spare is off-center under the truck?
I thought I was not lining it up correctly when winding up, but after getting under the truck and checking, it looks like the whole spare tire bracketry/etc is off to the passenger side.

I was able to fit my full size spare. 18x9 SCS F5 wheel with 35x12.5 Toyo Open country AT3. I had to air it down to 20 psi to fit

I had no idea until Les Schwab mounted my full size spare off center, I was pissed but assumed that was the only way it went in. Last week I dropped my spare and cut my mounts off to help it tuck up better (huge improvement!) and walked over to check out my neighbors platinum- his stock spare was off center as well!

Hey @reywcms. Could you please post your buddy's tire make/model and specs and what trim they have for the Tundra? Limited, SR5, etc? Thanks a ton!

Thanks @reywcms . Your buddy has a nice rig. Do you know if he got the 35" Maxxis Razors in the spare tire well with no issue? Thanks!

Thanks great news. Thanks @reywcms . I just ordered some 34.6" BFG KO2s, 285/65R20 on my Limited 2023 Tundra so I am hopeful I won't run into any issues. I'll plan to update here with the results.

Adding another data point to the thread:

    Toyo Open Country AT3 35 x 11.5 x 17 C-rated at 35 psi mounted on a Method 703 17 x 8.5 fits in the spare location.

It’s a tight fit with 3/8” to 1/2” of breathing room to the panhard bar but I’ve experienced zero rub or interference in 2,000 miles including about 100 miles of forest service roads and mild trails.

I have the same tires mounted on 17" Icons and it fits as well. It's tight but no issues so far.

@Dtrancrx Here are a few different angles. I unintentionally wiped off the dirt on the panhard bar when messing around with that penny, trying to get it to balance without having to hold it. Should give some perspective on the amount of breathing room between tire and bar. It’s close but no rubbing.
