Ordered a new Leer 100XR with sliding side windows. Has anyone been able to tint the windows darker? Guy said the window screens are not removable therefore windows can’t be re-tinted.

That sounds kind of crazy that you can’t remove the screens. How do you clean the windows ?

That’s what I was thinking. Guy said the screens were “made” in and not removable. He said the inside carpet will make it look darker from the outside. I’ll have to wait until it comes in and check it myself I guess

The screens are easily removed. All you need to do is remove the screws from the clamp ring, pull the clamp ring off the window and that will expose the track that the screen spline is pushed into. Pull the spline (it's just a rubber cord) out of the track and remove the screen. Reverse the steps to put the screen back in. There is a roller for replacing the spline but a small screwdriver works too. Be careful if you do this when the cap is new as the gasket that seals the window to the cap will likely not be adhered very well to the cap and the window can drop out without the clamp ring being screwed in on the inside.

I took my screens out so my dogs can hang their heads out of the windows. They're only held in with a strip of rubber, u just pull the rubber out and they'll come right out.

Thanks for all the info. I didn’t think that sounded right that I wouldn’t be able to access the glass. I will definitely tint the windows once it’s installed. I was told 4 week timeframe and this is week 2; but who’s counting

Well I got my topper installed and I have to say I won’t have to tint any of the windows after all! They are much darker than I expected.

Yeah i was gunna say idk why you'd want to tint them since they are pretty dark already but people definitely do it. I used to love getting vehicles tinted but now in Massachusetts its a pain to get a sticker so I just don't really care anymore, being over 30 might play into that as well lol

I did another layer of tint on mine. I do not have the same windows as yours, and I manage to remove and reinstall the screen.

Guy told me that the inside carpeting would help it look darker from the outside so maybe that’s true.

It looks dark from the photo. That looks the same type of window I have. The screen is a pain to reinstall due to the very small screen spline. I had to use a small screw driver to reinstall it and had some tear during the process.

Looks good, did your shop give you the caps for the thule rack mounts. Looks way better with the rack off and caps on when you're not using it. I created an ingenious way to store them on the sides inside cap if you're interested i can take some pics tomorrow.

I just got little L brackets from home depot, widened the hole with a step bit and used the mounting bolt to hold them. I put some pipe insulation around the rail just to keep them from making any noise.

This is what the top looks like with the caps.
