It's really not that hard. It took me a few minutes to remove the grill, corner plastic and headlight. I did scratch on of the corner piece during reinstallation.

While you're at it, might as well change the fig lights. I did have to do it twice in the span of two days. One of my led was upside down.

I'm just wondering if it's worth all this for leds. Taking a chance of scratching things and breaking tabs etc. All for a different light bulb?

Do you mean the headlight assembly or just the bulb?

The individual bulbs come out by themselves, with no disassembly required. Twist and pull. The battery side is cramped but totally doable.

    Am I wrong?

I have touch up paint and different grit sand paper and buffing compound in my truck. I get chips driving down the highway all the time. I try to do the repair as soon as I notice it.

The escutcheon on my led is removable to be able to put the dust cover on. I did not know the led have reflectors pointing up and down for hi/lo orientation. I reinstalled one upside down.

I thought to even change the headlight bulb you have to disassemble? The only one you can change without disassembly is the turn signal bulb, I believe.

I sure hope no one is putting LED bulbs in a halogen reflector housing. Just get the higher output halogens if you need brighter lights. Coming from a Subaru with factory LED headlights, I'm impressed with the output from my stock SR5 halogens.

You'll be surprised how much better having LED's over halogen. Subaru's I owned did not have any good headlight. But they were the older models.

My point is only that if your truck has a halogen reflector housing (as opposed to a halogen projector like in the Tacomas/4runners) and you simply swap the halogen bulbs out for LED, what you'll get is a brighter light scatter for yourself, and subsequently blind everyone else on the road.

Lots of discourse (and good pics!) over in Tacoma world about this sort of thing: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/why-leds-should-not-be-run-in-halogen-reflectors.454371/

Yes, that is true. I might be blinding people already without even knowing it. I do see allot of other vehicles that does that. Especially the F series.

I need to do a test and see before I upgrade my headlights.

Buy the right LEDs and you wont have a problem. After installing turn them on against a wall and make sure you have a sharp cut off line with no scattered light. You should have a good hot spot. The leds should look exactly like the halogens you removed. If not, remove them and send them back. I'm using Sylvania H4 Zero LED and they look exactly like the halogens except the color.

That's what I was doing. You say it's not worth it and leave the stock bulbs in there? What can you put leds in the stock housing?

Thanks! I used Beamtech in my 2014. Loved them. Not too bright but the cutoff was a little high.

I'm mechanically inclined, but it scares the shit outta me having a 50,000 dollar vehicle and taking about the whole front end just to get to a damn light bulb...

I changed my bulbs with some HR supernova LED bulbs on my 17 Pro. At the time I didn’t have the money for 18 LED OEM lights. The light scatter not bad and the out put is so much better. And no I am not blinding people. I never get flashed unless my BD squadron sports are on. Then I get flashed. At some point I will do the full swap. Yes I had to pull the whole front end off. Not bad but still a pain in the ass. A54A98FC-59A3-4EB6-BBE2-F5BABA859645.jpg
